For as long as media has existed in all of its various forms, there has always been the veritable “dirt sheet”—often the source of rumors, slander and gossip.
Whether in print, television or the internet, there will always be those who take real stories and contort them, working the headlines and the quotes to be more provocative.
TMZ, which has its following for its celebrity gossip and paparazzi-style journalism, seems to unnerve celebrities with their tactics.
Their newest victim?
Tracy McGrady.
TMZ is making their own headline. I didn’t face MJ in his prime to include him. #legends
— Tracy McGrady (@Real_T_Mac) August 22, 2013
While entering LAX (Los Angeles World Airports), McGrady was asked by a TMZ reporter about Kobe Bryant’s comment, wherein he was reported as having said that T-Mac was the toughest opponent he ever guarded.
The question was posed to McGrady, “Who’s the toughest guy you ever played against?” His response, “It’s Kobe. All day.”
Of course, even though they have T-Mac on video explaining his choice, they run the sexy headline.
His reasoning makes perfect sense, whether it be Michael Jordan at the beginning of his career or LeBron James at the end of it, he never had the chance to face them in his prime.
However, TMZ chose to take what they wanted from his answers to fashion a headline that would bring in more viewers.
Perhaps, next time, McGrady will think twice before entertaining the whims of a guy with a camera that identifies himself as being with TMZ.
