If you thought that Miley Cyrus galavanting around in (what was supposed to be) a provocative nude-colored two-piece swimsuit was disturbing, you are not familiar with the WWE.
World Wrestling Entertainment—formerly known as the WWF (World Wrestling Federation)—has been pushing television boundaries for a couple decades now.
In the height of what many modern fans consider wrestling’s zenith, the Attitude Era (from roughly 1996-to-2002), the wrestling juggernaut pushed the boundaries of live-televised content.
Don’t believe me? Allow Atlanta Hawks’ forward Mike Scott to elaborate.
Soooooo I’m just here watching old WWF clips on YouTube….and uhhh……. Y’all just going ignore Rikishi wearing a thong??”
To understand the severity of this description, you first have to know that Rikishi (whose real name is Solofa Fatu Jr.) was a large, heavy-set Samoan wrestler who wore sumo-style garments—including a thong.
As has been tradition in professional wrestling, wrestlers with any modicum of appeal generally have signature maneuvers and finishers. Rikishi’s signature move was the Stinkface, whereby he would thrust his thonged buttocks into an opponents face as they lay against the corner ring post.
Making matters worse, after some time working in tandem with wrestling tag-team Too Cool—a group comprised of Grandmaster Sexay and Scotty Too Hotty—he developed a rather provocative dance routine.
While it is uncertain which specific Rikishi clip the Hawks’ forward was watching on Youtube, there are plenty to choose from.
In probably what is equally one of the most disturbing and hilarious clips, Rikishi unleashes his signature Stinkface on fellow wrestler Booker T (circa WWF Smackdown in January of 2002).
The slow motion replay of Booker T.’s face in mix of expectant fear, shame and utter disgust, that makes the video worth watching. Booker vomiting on ringside announcer Michael Cole is a bonus.
The execution of the Rikishi Stinkface and the celebratory Too Cool sexy dance at the end is extremely distasteful.
In the immortal words of the Futurama narrator, “You’ve watched it! You can’t un-watch it!”
