Friday is “Fun Day”…well, at least for some. For most of us, it just signifies the end of the work week. Retired four-time NBA champion and NBA on TNT studio analyst Dr. Shaquille O’Neal seems to be in a rather comical mood. O’Neal took to Instagram to record a comical video that is sure to entertain. I wish nuttin but the best for you http://t.co/vUZGNvm0lD — SHAQ (@SHAQ) August 16, 2013 There was a problem with the blakbirdpie shortcode Shaq is singing Adele’s “Someone Like You” to what appears to be either

StatBox Free Agency Breakdown: Grizzlies hope Fab Melo amounts to something after Celtics give up
In a seemingly minor trade, two former first-round picks from Syracuse were swapped for one another Thursday. Boston sent 2012 first-rounder Fab Melo to Memphis for the non-guaranteed contract of Donte Greene. This trade has relatively minor implications, but an impact nonetheless that will be laid out. It would be a surprise if Greene plays a single minute for the Celtics. The former Sacramento King didn’t play last season after breaking his ankle last summer. This was after a 2011-2012 season
VIDEO: Kobe Bryant May Not Play on Opening Night
Around here, we’ve been pretty skeptical about then possibility of Kobe Bryant returning from his ruptured Achilles tendon and playing for the Lakers on opening night. Why? The injury he sustained — a torn Achilles tendon — typically takes at least 9 months to heal. He was injured in April, so that would make January the 9-month mark. Yes, the guy is superhuman, and everyone’s body heals at a different speed, but the opening night banter seemed patently ridiculous to anyone
Tweet of the Night: J.R. Smith says championship or bust for the Knicks
The New York Knicks, compared to what they have been over the past decade or so, were a wildly successful team last season. They were the second best team in the Eastern Conference and had high hopes heading into the playoffs. Prior to the start of the season, they were written off as an old team that had next to no chance of beating the Miami Heat. Yet, they managed to beat the Heat in three of four regular season games.
SH Blog: Nick Young upset with ESPN’s rank of Lakers, Griffin ready to play role of closer
When ESPN ranked the Western Conference teams on Tuesday and put the Los Angeles Lakers as the 12th best squad, it drew plenty of interest and raised certain people’s eyebrows. Kobe Bryant was the first Lakers player to officially react to the article, but he didn’t do so with so many words. Not so for reserve guard Nick Young, who signed on with the Lakers back in early July. He saw the article, tweeted his feelings of displeasure, then shared some
Tweet of the Day: Roger Mason Jr. Will Run for President
The state of the National Basketball Players’ Association, as some—like Miami Heat star LeBron James—see it, is in disarray and in need of new leadership. Others, like Jerry Stackhouse—who serves as first vice-president on the executive committee, believe that the committee is making strides to correct things from within. Nevertheless, the end of Derek Fisher’s tenure as union president leaves the committee in need of a new leader. Until only days ago, King James was considering making a run at the union throne.
Evening News: Kupchak calls Kobe “a big question mark”; Celtics give up on 2012 first round pick
What’s happening in the NBA today? The Lakers front office spoke publicly about Kobe Bryant’s rehabilitation and the Celtics traded their first round pick from last year to Memphis. [Read more…]
Celtics trade Fab Melo to Grizzlies
In a minor trade which has luxury tax implications for both teams, the Boston Celtics traded project center Fab Melo to the Memphis Grizzlies for Donte Greene. The swap of Syracuse alums was announced Wednesday by the Grizzlies. Dumping Melo’s $1.3 million salary for the 2013-14 season gets the Celtics right to the tax line, according to our salary analysis. They take back Greene, who is scheduled to make $1.03 million in a non-guaranteed deal. [Read more…]
