3. Will real point guard play transform the Pistons? A bigger role for Drummond and the signing of Smith certainly help stabilize a notoriously leaky defense. But what about the offense? Detroit was able to snare Brandon Jennings after it became clear Milwaukee was not interested in retaining his services.
Jennings definitely has holes in his game, but what people may not realize is just how much of a step up his play should be compared to Brandon Knight, who was slated to be the starting point guard before being sent to Milwaukee. Knight was a decent shooter but was horrific at traditional point guard skills – running the pick-and-roll, getting others easy baskets, breaking down defenses, etc.
Jennings should improve on all those areas several times over. And he is just as adept a 3-point shooter as Knight. His addition should definitely help Monroe and Drummond score easy buckets in the paint, and get Detroit’s stable of spot-up shooters good looks on the perimeter.
4. Spacing issues. It is the most commonly used phrase since the Pistons signed Smith. Everyone is worried about spacing issues. For the Pistons to be successful, those spacing questions need to be answered. And the players most likely to provide those answers are Datome, Billups and Caldwell-Pope.
Datome, in particular, is an intriguing prospect. Armed with a 50/40/90 line in Europe, if his sweet shooting skills make a smooth transition to the NBA, he will be one of the biggest contributors in his rookie class. Speaking of rookies, Caldwell-Pope could also be an instant contributor on both ends, with solid defense and a great jump shot.
And last but not least is Billups. While he is not the deadly efficient point guard he was in his first tour with the Pistons, he should be able to stabilize the second unit and hit the deep ball. If those three can hit shots, these so-called “spacing issues” will largely disappear.
5. Greg Monroe. Ever since the Pistons signed Smith, there has been an endless stream of bizarre, lopsided and nonsensical trade rumors involving Monroe. He is being traded for everything from Rajon Rondo to Rudy Gay to LaMarcus Aldridge.
“Moose” is up for an extension soon and will command near max money. Until he signs his name to that dotted line, the rumors will continue. Will it affect his game? Will a rumor become a reality? What is equal return for a young big man who averages 16 and 10? I, for one, hope to never have to find out.

I predict that Pistons will fight it out with Knicks for 5th in East.
If they succeed maybe Melo does go to LAL afterall.
Too much fuss being made about team chemistry.
Chauncey Billups will straighten things out.
