A lot can change in just under five months. Just ask the basketball fans of New Orleans. They really needed change after what went on last season. The 2012-2013 season was dark and gloomy for NOLA hoops. The team finished 14th in the Western Conference at 27-55, with an 11-30 road record that was also 14th in the conference. The team had trouble scoring (more on that later) and winning intraconference games. Its record against West teams was 15-37, good for

Mexico Wins Tournament of the Americas
Strange things happen in international basketball. If there is one rule of thumb concerning FIBA tournaments, that is it. And as of last night, we have a new regional champion that absolutely no one would have picked to win the Tournament of the Americas. Mexico. Yes, Mexico. They can’t seem to get their act together in soccer, but in basketball they took home the gold medal by defeating Puerto Rico 91-89 to qualify for the World Cup (formerly known as the World Championship)
Tweet of the Night: Mario Chalmers welcomes back Michael Beasley to the Miami Heat
After struggling to make an impact with a bigger role in Minnesota and Phoenix, it was announced on Wednesday that forward Michael Beasley had come to terms with the team that drafted him with the 2nd overall pick in the 2008 NBA Draft – the Miami Heat. Although the forward never had trouble scoring (albeit inefficiently), it was the lack of doing anything else on the court and causing off-court issues that has deteriorated his reputation over the years. With the Heat,
SH Blog: Heat come to terms with Beasley, Jim Buss explains why Lakers really passed on Phil Jackson
You can be an incredibly gifted scorer in the NBA, but these days, that skill alone won’t necessarily cut it for most teams. You have to understand the concept of team play on both ends of the court. Without it, you might not be good enough to stick around in the league, and that is especially true if you come with baggage. At this point in his career, Michael Beasley is that guy – a pretty good scorer that doesn’t defend
Tweet of the Day: NBA Players Reflect On 9/11
It was 12 years ago today that the horrors of 9/11 were etched into the annals of history, yet the events of that day still seem so recent. Two airplanes crashed into the World Trade Center towers in New York City causing them to collapse and two other planes flew towards targets further south—one crashing in a field in Pennsylvania, the other hitting the Pentagon in Washington. Today, as many across the United States take time to reflect on the tragedy that
Evening News: Heat sign Beasley; ESPN: Lakers won’t get LeBron
In today’s news, the Heat added yet another weapon to their extremely deep bench. Meanwhile, in Los Angeles, pessimism surrounds the Lakers’ inevitable pursuit of LeBron James. Heat add Beasley The Miami Heat announced today that they agreed to a contract with forward Michael Beasley. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. Beasley, who was drafted by the Heat second overall in 2008 — one pick after Derrick Rose — has proven to be a lethal scorer on the court in five years
Five Things to Watch: Milwaukee Bucks
Capping off a mediocrity-defining three-year stretch that saw them finish ninth, ninth and eighth in the East, the Milwaukee Bucks should have entered the summer of 2013 with change as the most obvious mandate. As in change everything. Despite a return to the playoffs and encouraging progress from big men Larry Sanders, Ersan Ilyasova and John Henson, the Bucks had little to show for their efforts last season, as coaching upheaval and a dysfunctional locker room motivated GM John Hammond to take a
