Through four weeks of the NFL regular season DraftStreet‘s mega contest has awarded twelve seats to the final stage in Las Vegas. There are 28 more seats up for grabs in the coming weeks, three of them this week. For full contest details, click here. In today’s NFL at Sheridan Hoops, I review the results of Week 4 action, in which my teams finished in the middle of the pack, far away from the cash prizes. There was significant overlay in the Week 4 qualifiers and there may be for Week 5, so don’t miss out on the gift of free “money” and register.
My top team in the $22 qualifier amassed 155.80 points (the winner scored 207.06 and the last cash spot 168.66). The stars of my team were Broncos wide receiver duo Wes Welker/DEN and Demaryius Thomas/DEN, both scoring two touchdowns, cheap WR option Robert Woods/BUF and the Kansas City Chiefs defense. RB Matt Forte/CHI and QB Matthew Stafford/DET performed as expected, but QB Russell Wilson/SEA and RB Doug Martin/TBB were huge disappointments. Six out of ten doesn’t cut – we’ll have to do better this week.
This week’s qualifiers are priced at $22, $109, and $420 to enter, and you may enter multiple teams in each qualifier. Let’s have a look at what Week 5 might have in store for us.
Quarterbacks for Week 5
We begin with potentially the best value play among quarterbacks at DraftStreet. Eli Manning/$13192/NYG has put up decent fantasy numbers all season, with the exception of a horrendous Week 3 in Carolina. He’ll get a chance to attack the worst defense in the league on paper, the Philadelphia Eagles. WR Victor Cruz/NYG has been his main weapon, but WR Hakeem Nicks/NYG is an effective second fiddle. In what promises to be a shootout, Manning will get plenty of opportunities to light up the scoreboard.
If you are looking for safety without overspending Aaron Rodgers/$17753/GBP and Tom Brady/$12437/NEP are your men this week. Rodgers is coming off a bye week and will have a full complement of healthy receivers to attack the Lions with (with the possible exception of TE Jermichael Finley/GBP). Tom Brady has muddled through so far with a depleted receiving corps, though the likely return of WR Danny Amendola/NEP will add to his options. I’m a little shocked at how low his price has fallen, given that the Patriots have so few healthy running backs. All indications point to Brady relying on his patented short passing game against the Bengals.
