Through five weeks of the NFL regular season DraftStreet‘s mega contest has awarded 15 seats to the final stage in Las Vegas. There are 25 more seats up for grabs in the coming weeks, three of them this week. For full contest details, click here. In today’s NFL at Sheridan Hoops, I review the results of Week 5 action, in which my teams finished in the middle of the pack. There was significant overlay in the Week 5 qualifiers and there may be for Week 6, so don’t miss out on the gift of free “money” and register.
My top team in the $22 qualifier amassed 144.42 points to finish 806th in the 2670-entry field; the last paying spot required a score of 165.68. Let’s begin with the hits. I figured LeSean McCoy/PHI would be the main offensive weapon for the Eagles against the Giants and though his rushing yards were limited to 46, Shady McCoy scored a TD and caught 6 passes for a point total of 18.2. I had success with Eric Decker/DEN, Vincent Brown/SDC, the Chiefs defense, Jimmy Graham/NOS, and a monster performance from Tony Romo/DAL. As I’ve mentioned before, six out of ten isn’t enough to contend. I whiffed on Tom Brady/NEP who was a complete disaster. Running backs Rashard Jennings/OAK and Trent Richardson/IND had no receptions or touchdowns, and DeAndre Hopkins/HOU caught just two passes.
This week’s qualifiers are priced at $22, $109, and $420 to enter, and you may enter multiple teams in each qualifier. Let’s have a look at what Week 6 might have in store for us.
Quarterbacks for Week 6
The price for Peyton Manning/$21523/DEN keeps going up. I repeat my assertion from last week that he can’t possibly be worth the stratospheric salary he commands in DraftStreet. This week he is likely to play only three quarters in anger, either being removed in the 4th quarter or settling the Broncos offense into a run out the clock mode.
Robert Griffin III/$14826/WAS and Tony Romo/$16441/DAL are set to post big numbers in a likely shootout. Romo is coming off a career game and I look for significant regression towards the mean for him. Griffin doesn’t have as many weapons to work with, but combined with his scrambling ability and the sheer volume of passes he will throw, RG3 is a safe fantasy play.
Joe Flacco/$10113/BAL will have to throw the ball to keep the Ravens in the game against the Packers. He may be the best value among all QBs. If you want to go even cheaper, consider the mediocre Brandon Weeden/$8684/CLE against the Lions.
