Clippers to cover up Lakers’ banners at home games
Posted at 09:47 AM ET
The Los Angeles Clippers don’t need a constant reminder that its history isn’t comparable to that of the LA Lakers. The team has decided to cover up the Lakers championship banners during home games, reports Eric Pincus of the Los Angeles Times. The Lakers display 12 championship banners (including one to recognize the team’s five championships won in Minneapolis), 10 retired jerseys (including one to honor the late Chick Hearn) and one special banner to honor six from the Minneapolis era (including coach John Kundla) in the rafters at Staples Center. None of that will be seen as seven Clippers banners hide every bit of the Lakers’ storied history. Banners of Jamal Crawford, Blake Griffin, J.J. Redick, DeAndre Jordan, Jared Dudley, Chris Paul and Matt Barnes will now overlook the arena.
Favors reaches extension with Utah
Posted at 09:18 AM ET
Derrick Favors has reached an agreement on a four-year, $49 million-plus contract extension with the Utah Jazz, Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports reports. The deal has not yet been signed but both sides have agreed to get it finalized in the near future. Favors is a centerpiece of the Jazz’s future and will take over a starting frontcourt position because of the off-season departures of Al Jefferson and Paul Millsap. Favors wanted to remain with the Jazz after being traded to the team three years ago from the New Jersey Nets as part of the Deron Williams deal. In 23.2 minutes per game a season ago, Favors averaged 9.4 points and 7.1 rebounds.
Trivia Answer: The Spurs broke an NBA Finals record with 16 3-pointers in their Game 3 win.
