Through six weeks of the NFL regular season DraftStreet‘s mega contest has awarded 18 seats to the final stage in Las Vegas. There are 22 more seats up for grabs in the coming weeks, three of them this week. For full contest details, click here. In today’s NFL at Sheridan Hoops, I review the results of Week 6 action, in which my team was derailed by a key injury. There was significant overlay in the Week 6 qualifiers and there will likely be more for Week 7, so don’t miss out on the gift of free “money” and register.
My $22 qualifier team was torpedoed by a first half injury to DeMarco Murray/DAL. Murray was all set to have a massive game when he was knocked out by a knee injury. Dez Bryant/DAL was kept out of the end-zone and finished with a paltry 36 yards receiving. The Achilles heel of my team was a total lack of touchdowns scored – only the injured Murray found the goal line. The end result was 103.54 points and a 1613th place finish out of 2501 entries – my worst result this year so far. The simple lesson is that you can’t compete if your guys don’t rack up the touchdowns.
This week’s qualifiers are priced at $22, $215, and $420 to enter, and you may enter multiple teams in each qualifier. Let’s have a look at what Week 7 might have in store for us.
Quarterbacks for Week 7
Top play: Andrew Luck/$13676/IND. Luck has a great match up at home against his “mentor” Peyton Manning/$20042/DEN. Luck‘s poor numbers last week against the Chargers are deceptive, as several perfectly thrown balls were dropped by his receivers. I assume that won’t happen again this week in front of the home crowd. With perfect indoor conditions, I expect a shootout, with the Colts steering away from their running game to keep up with the Denver aerial attack. Luck’s raw numbers should only be a shade behind Manning‘s in this game. Aside from last week, Luck‘s DraftStreet point totals have ranged from 14.8 to 24.9, including two rushing TDs and almost 200 yards rushing on the season. His ability to gather points on the ground is another reason to like Andrew Luck.
Other plays: The speculative/bargain play of the week is Brandon Weeden/$10826/CLE. Weeden has two premium offensive talents in the form of WR Josh Gordon/CLE and TE Jordan Cameron/CLE, enough to keep the Browns competitive on the road in Green Bay. The Browns will likely be playing from behind, which will be good for Weeden’s fantasy numbers. Jay Cutler/$13839/CHI is a quarterback reborn under the wide open offensive system the Bears have adopted this season. Nick Foles/$12066/PHI won’t run for many yards in the Eagles offensive scheme, but he has two rushing TDs, is accurate with his short and medium yardage passes, and makes few mistakes. Among other speculative plays, Mike Glennon/$10212/TBB has done well since taking over from Josh Freeman/$9548/MIN as Tampa Bay’s quarterback. The Bucs offense has potential and the defense is good. Their opponents, the Falcons, are severely wounded, so this could be the week the Bucs put it all together and get a win.
