In today’s news, Chris Paul shared some details about his future career plans. Meanwhile, the Nuggets are reportedly gauging other teams’ interest in Kenneth Faried.
Chris Paul envisions a possible early retirement
In an interview with Mary Carillo of HBO’s Real Sports, Chris Paul said that he would consider retiring from the NBA before his talent fully dissipated:
“I love to play basketball more than anybody,” Paul said. “I’m serious, nobody loves to play basketball more than I do. But I could honestly see myself maybe stopping a little earlier, maybe premature, just because I hate to miss anything with my kids.
“I would hate for my kids to recall those special moments in their life, and I wasn’t there.”
Paul, who is 28, just signed a five year, $107.3 million extension with the Clippers this summer. At the end of the contract, Paul will be 33 and will surely have opportunities to continue to play basketball if he desires.
Paul ranks third all-time in NBA history with 9.8 assists per game over his career.
Nuggets gauging trade market for Faried
According to Grantland’s Zach Lowe, sources have confirmed that the Denver Nuggets have put out trade feelers to gauge the level of interest in Kenneth Faried.
While the Nuggets deny that they are shopping the 23-year-old “Manimal,” Faried only has two years remaining on his rookie contract and figures to receive a handsome payday in 2015. For a Nuggets team already committing long term money to several different players, finding cap space for Faried may be a challenging proposition.
If the team does end up trading him, they will likely command a fortune’s worth of assets.
