In today’s news, rumors circulated suggesting Masai Ujiri is looking to make changes to his roster. Meanwhile, in Los Angeles, Kobe Bryant said he has no idea what Carmelo Anthony will do as a free agent next summer.
Ujiri in “wait and see” mode
Bruce Arthur of the National Post reports Masai Ujiri is keeping his options open with the roster he inherited in Toronto.
“For me to come out and say this is how I want to do this, no, I have to evaluate what we have here first … I think it gives everyone a fair shot, which is what everyone deserves.”
Ujiri’s first big move as the general manager of the Raptors was trading former top pick Andrea Bargnani to the Knicks.
While Ujiri anticipates to make more moves in the future, he is in an evaluation process for his team at the moment.
“It’s our first time all together,” said Ujiri. “It’s an evaluation time for us.
“We are still evaluating. I don’t know (about the team). I can’t tell you yet. Maybe after a couple of weeks, I will be able to say.”
Arthur also mentioned in the article that sources say Ujiri has held preliminary discussions about potentially moving Rudy Gay in a trade.
Kobe Bryant unsure of Carmelo Anthony’s plans for next sesaon
According to Marc J. Spears of Yahoo.com, Kobe Bryant is not thinking about free agency next season.
When asked about his intentions for free agency in 2014, Bryant responded:
“Am I a free agent right now? No. Next summer is next summer. How do I know what is going to happen? Jim Buss just said they’re going to start conversations now. We will start the conversations and go from there.”
When Spears asked Bryant about Carmelo Anthony’s intentions for free agency next season, Bryant was straightforward:
“He’s in New York. I’m in L.A. I have no idea what he is going to do or what he is thinking about.”
Clearly, Bryant’s main priority is to return to the court as soon as possible.
