Day 6 of the 2013-14 NBA regular season is officially in the books. While there may not have been feats of historical significance, there were events that helped to re-shape the landscape of the still-young NBA season.
Here’s everything you need to know about Sunday’s action.
1. Russell Westbrook made his season debut more than two weeks ahead of schedule. He finished with 21 points, seven assists, four rebounds and a steal in 33 minutes. He shot 5-of-16 from the field, 0-for-2 from three-point range and 11-of-14 from the free throw line as the Oklahoma City Thunder won 103-96 over the Phoenix Suns.
2. Kevin Durant had 33 points and 10 rebounds on 10-of-19 shooting from the field. Prior to Westbrook’s return, Durant was shooting 37.1 percent from the field.
3. Eric Bledsoe scored 26 points, dished out a career-high 14 assists, grabbed seven rebounds and swiped three steals. After registering two 20-point outings in 2012-13, Bledsoe now has two in his first three games during the 2013-14 regular season.
4. Brandon Jennings made his debut with the Detroit Pistons during an 87-77 win over the Boston Celtics. Jennings finished with 14 points, four assists, three rebounds and four steals on 5-of-12 shooting from the field, 1-of-2 from distance and 3-of-6 from the free throw line in 31 minutes.
5. For the first time this season, all three members of the Big Three scored at least 20 points in a 103-93 Miami Heat win over the Washington Wizards. LeBron James had 25, Chris Bosh scored 24 and Dwyane Wade tallied 20.
6. The Minnesota Timberwolves defeated the New York Knicks 109-100. Minnesota’s starters combined for 93 points. Kevin Love had 34, Kevin Martin had 30, Nikola Pekovic had 11, Corey Brewer added 10 and Ricky Rubio tallied eight points, 10 assists and three steals.
7. After failing to top the 30-point plateau during his stint with the Oklahoma City Thunder, this marks the first time that Martin scored at least 30 points since March 2, 2012. He’d done it 69 times before then.
8.. The Orlando Magic defeated the Brooklyn Nets by a score of 107-86. Orlando beat the New Orleans Pelicans 110-90 just two nights earlier. This is the first time since March 11, 2010 that the Magic have won two consecutive games by at least 20 points.
9. Magic power forward Andrew Nicholson recorded his third career double-double with 17 points and 11 rebounds. Nikola Vucevic put up his second of the season with 19 points and 12 rebounds. Vucevic was third in the NBA with 46 last season.
10. Xavier Henry led the Los Angeles Lakers to a 105-103 win over the Atlanta Hawks by scoring 18 points. Henry has now scored in double-figures in three of his first four games. He scored in double-figures in three total games during the 2012-13 season.
