Monday, November 4, 2013 marked yet another day of NBA basketball. Eight teams took part in four games, as three inter-conference battles and one clash between NBA championship contenders took the league by storm.
Here’s everything you need to know about what transpired.
1. Stephen Curry of the Golden State Warriors posted the second triple-double of the 2013-14 regular season with 18 points, 12 assists, 10 rebounds, five steals and one block during a 110-90 win over the Philadelphia 76ers. It was Curry’s second career triple-double and his first since February 10, 2010.
2. Andre Iguodala led the Warriors with 32 points on 11-of-18 shooting from the field, 7-of-11 from three-point range and 3-of-4 from the free throw line. It was Iguodala’s 15th career 30-point outing, but the first time he’s reached the plateau since April 3, 2010—when he was still playing for the Sixers squad that he just torched.
3. Speaking of Iguodala, the man who replaced him for the 76ers, Evan Turner, scored 18 points with seven rebounds, one assist and three steals. He’s now scored at least 18 points in all four of the Sixers’ games in 2013-14. That ties the longest stretch of his career.
4. The Boston Celtics are now 0-4 after losing 95-88 to the Memphis Grizzlies. It’s the first time that Boston is 0-4 since 1969-70, when it finished 34-48. Current Celtics head coach Brad Stevens hadn’t been born yet.
5. Chris Paul led the Los Angeles Clippers to an 137-118 win over the Houston Rockets with 23 points and 17 assists. Dating back to last season, CP3 now has a double-double in five consecutive regular season games—his longest streak since January 16, 2010.
6. Clippers shooting guard J.J. Redick scored a game-high 26 points while shooting 8-of-15 from the field, 2-of-7 from three-point range and 8-of-8 from the free throw line. This marks his eighth career 25-plus-point performance, and his fifth since January of 2013. Keep that in mind as you evaluate Los Angeles’ upside in 2013-14.
7. Omri Casspi of the Houston Rockets scored 19 points against the Clippers. It was his highest scoring output since dropping 20 on January 28, 2011.
8. The Cleveland Cavaliers defeated the Minnesota Timberwolves 93-92, but not everyone on the roster was a winner. No. 1 overall draft choice Anthony Bennett failed to make a single field goal, bringing him to 0-for-15 through after four games.
9. The Timberwolves fell one steal short of the franchise record by swiping 16. Corey Brewer led the team with six and Ricky Rubio swiped five.
10. T-Wolves shooting guard Kevin Martin has scored at least 20 points in two consecutive games. He did that one time all year in 2012-13 after compiling 49 streaks of at least two straight 20-point outings before joining the Oklahoma City Thunder.
Bonus Fact: The Clippers’ 137 points marked their highest scoring output since March 16, 2010.
