Tuesday, November 6 marked yet another day of NBA action, as 18 teams took part in nine games. Contenders continued their hot starts, quality teams fell to rising opponents and one of the biggest names in basketball suffered an injury.
Here’s everything you need to know about what transpired.
1. The Indiana Pacers defeated the Detroit Pistons 99-91 to move to 4-0. Just one week in, the Pacers are the only undefeated team in the NBA.
2. The New York Knicks lost 102-97 to the Charlotte Bobcats. More importantly, Ian Begley of ESPN New York reports that Knicks center and former Defensive Player of the Year Tyson Chandler suffered what appears to be a sprained knee.
3. LeBron James led the Miami Heat to a 104-95 win over the Toronto Raptors with 35 points, eight rebounds, eight assists and a block on 13-of-20 shooting from the field. It was LeBron’s first 30-plus-point scoring output of the season.
4. Rudy Gay recorded his second consecutive double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds. It’s the first time that Gay, commonly referred to as an All-Star Game snub, has tallied two straight double-doubles since December 28, 2011.
5. Monta Ellis led the Dallas Mavericks to a 123-104 victory over the Los Angeles Lakers. He finished with 30 points, nine assists, three rebounds and a steal on 11-of-14 shooting from the field. Ellis now has three games with at least 30 points on 75.0 percent shooting or better since 2010—the highest number of any player in the NBA.
6. Dwight Howard and James Harden led the Houston Rockets to a 116-101 road victory over the Portland Trail Blazers. Harden tallied 31 points, while Harden scored 29 with 13 rebounds. The two shot a combined 21-of-31 from the field and 18-of-22 from the charity stripe.
7. Al Horford tallied 27 points and 10 rebounds, and Paul Millsap picked up 25 points, 11 rebounds and four steals to lead the Atlanta Hawks to a 105-100 victory over the Sacramento Kings. It was the first time that both players posted double-doubles in the same game.
8. Kings backup point guard Isaiah Thomas scored 26 points on 8-of-17 shooting from the field and 9-of-9 from the charity stripe. Thomas has topped 25 points in two of his past three games after going for at least 20 in nine of his final 21 outings in 2012-13.
9. Eric Bledsoe scored 25 points on 10-of-12 shooting during the Phoenix Suns’ 104-98 win over the New Orleans Pelicans. Bledsoe has now topped 25 points in two straight games, and has topped 20 in three of his first four outings. Bledsoe had four career 20-point performances entering the 2013-14 season.
10. Anthony Davis of the Pelicans continued his torrid start with 17 points, 11 rebounds and five blocks. He’s now averaging 22.0 points, 12.0 rebounds and 4.3 blocks through four games.
Bonus Fact: Deron Williams helped lead the Brooklyn Nets to a 104-88 win over the Utah Jazz. It was D-Will’s first win over his former team since he was traded from Utah to New Jersey in 2011.
