If you like dominant performances, Friday was your night. Anthony Davis/NOP absolutely ate up the Lakers, while Kevin Love/MIN was unstoppable in leading the Wolves to a home win. Not to be outdone, Kevin Durant/OKC was at the top of his game, leading the Thunder to a road win in Detroit.
Top Fantasy Performers
The competition for top spots was fierce. Three players could reasonably be given the top spot, and many players who didn’t even make honorable mention were brilliant.
1) Anthony Davis/NOP. The most athletic big man to enter the league since … 12 of 18 FGA, 8 of 11 FTA, 12 rebounds, 3 assists, 1 steal, 6 blocks, 2 TO, 32 points.
2) Kevin Durant/OKC. 9 of 15 FGA, 17 of 19 FTA, 8 rebounds, 7 assists, 3 steals, 1 block, 3 TO, 37 points.
3) Kevin Love/MIN. 9 of 15 FGA, 5 of 5 FTA, 15 rebounds, 8 assists, 1 block, 2 TO, 32 points.
4) Luol Deng/CHI. Deng feasted on the hapless Jazz until he was removed well into blowout conditions. 7 of 9 FGA, 5 of 5 FTA, 11 rebounds, 9 assists, 5 steals, 5 TO, 19 points.
5) Greg Monroe/DET. 8 of 13 FGA, 4 of 5 FTA, 15 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals, 3 blocks, 2 TO, 20 points.
Honorable mention:
John Wall/WAS, DeMarcus Cousins/SAC, Brandon Jennings/DET, Carmelo Anthony/NYK, Andrea Bargnani/NYK.
Top Sleepers
1) Steven Adams/OKC. Establishing himself as the top big man among rookies. 7 of 10 FGA, 3 of 4 FTA, 10 rebounds, 3 assists, 1 steal, 3 blocks, 0 TO, 17 points.
2) Markieff Morris/PHO. After this, he’s no longer a sleeper. 10 of 13 FGA, 7 of 8 FTA, 10 rebounds, 2 assists, 3 steals, 4 TO, 28 points.
3) Andray Blatche/BKN. 4 of 5 FGA, 2 of 4 FTA, 13 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals, 4 TO, 10 points.
4) Jose Calderon/DAL. It’s a rare night when he fills the statsheet. 7 of 11 FGA, 1 of 1 FTA, 4 rebounds, 7 assists, 1 steal, 1 TO, 21 points.
5) Jordan Hamilton/DEN. Played 32 minutes and was productive again. 8 of 12 FGA, 3 of 7 FTA, 9 rebounds, 2 steals, 5 TO, 19 points.
6) Rudy Gobert/UTA. Utah backup center is a rebounding machine. 1 of 2 FGA, 2 of 6 FTA, 12 rebounds, 2 steals, 1 block, 0 TO, 4 points.
Biggest Busts
1) JaVale McGee/DEN. Played limited minutes. 1 of 4 FGA, 3 rebounds, 1 assist, 2 TO, 2 points.
2) Trevor Ariza/WAS. Took a back seat to teammate Wall. 1 of 4 FGA, 3 rebounds, 1 assist, 2 TO, 2 points.
3) Andre Drummond/DET. Took a back seat to teammate Monroe. 1 of 4 FGA, 3 rebounds, 1 assist, 2 TO, 2 points.
4) Kenneth Faried/DEN. The Nuggets abandoned the power game early. 1 of 4 FGA, 1 of 1 FTA, 5 rebounds, 1 assist, 0 TO, 3 points.
5) Deron Williams/BKN. 5 of 14 FGA, 3 rebounds, 3 assists, 6 TO, 14 points.
With Lance Stephenson/IND getting hurt early in the game and returning in the second half with mediocre production, my DraftStreet teams were destined not to be competitive. My recommended team was on the low side of their expected DraftStreet point range (207.50 points versus 235.00 projected). To do well on busy nights, you have to be on the lucky side of variance.
After a good first quarter, Kyrie Irving/CLE and Anderson Varejao/CLE were huge disappointments. Fellow Cavalier Tristan Thompson/CLE dominated the boards but Cleveland’s field goal percentage was terrible and they were thoroughly beaten by the Sixers. A rematch will be played today in Cleveland (I love these home-and-home mini-series).
The highest score in the massive 1,100 entry GPP was 299.50 DraftStreet points by “theomens”. His key players were Kevin Love/MIN, Luol Deng/CHI, John Wall/WAS, Andrea Bargnani/NYK and Rudy Gay/TOR. His team had no weaknesses, with Curry-fill in Toney Douglas/GSW, Steve Blake/LAL and Michael Carter-Williams/PHI rounding out his roster. A whopping 248.25 points was need just to make a minimum cash.
Saturday NBA contests at DraftStreet
It’s another busy day in the NBA, featuring the first next-day rematches of the season. We are in the home stretch of DraftStreet’s voucher promotion. All you have to do is enter NBA leagues through November 14th and work your way through vouchers of increasing value, the top one allowing an entry to a $109 contest.
If you like to shoot for a big prize in the big fields, there is a $5/330-entry GPP and a $11/300-entry GPP on offer, both with plenty of open spots. If you are a high-roller, you have to be content with the $109/$4,000 GPP. I see eight Double-Up GPPs in the lobby as I write, ranging from $5 to $215 to enter. Don’t forget the non-guarantee 10-entry and 20-entry contests – they are fast becoming my favorites. Look for “RobDudek” in several contests today as I work my way towards that $109 voucher.
Pacers take their Winning Streak to Brooklyn
A look at tonight’s games from a daily fantasy perspective. Dollar figures are DraftStreet prices. An asterisk (*) indicates a team is playing the their second game on back-to-back nights.
Utah Jazz* at Toronto Raptors* (7pm EST)- Over/Under Total=187.5; Raptors -8.5
The Raptors return home to face the league’s worst team, the Utah Jazz. Rudy Gay/$12,768/TOR was excellent against the Indiana Pacers: he should slice through the Jazz defense.
Orlando Magic* at Atlanta Hawks (7:30pm EST)- Over/Under Total=199; Hawks -6.5
The Magic face a rested Hawks on he road. Paul Millsap/$16,928/ATL has been sensational: he and Al Horford/$18,839/ATL should dominate in the paint.
Indiana Pacers* at Brooklyn Nets* (7:30pm EST)- Over/Under Total=186.5; Nets -1.5
How much Paul Pierce/$12,459/BKN and Kevin Garnett/$11,363/BKN can contribute today will be key to the Nets chances of winning. My money is on the Pacers’ all-everything Paul George/$17,981/IND.
Philadelphia 76ers* at Cleveland Cavaliers* (7:30 EST)- Over/Under Total=201; Cavs -8
A rematch. The Cavaliers will be out for revenge after a humiliating defeat in Philadelphia last night. Blowout conditions may apply.
Boston Celtics* at Miami Heat (7:30pm EST)- Over/Under Total=194.5; Heat -13
Can LeBron James/$22,351/MIA bounce back? Ray Allen/$8775/MIA may be worth a flyer as he faces his former team.
Los Angeles Clippers at Houston Rockets (8pm EST)- Over/Under Total=213.5; Rockets -4
Last time out against the Rockets, DeAndre Jordan’s/$13,827/LAC production was down. Chris Paul/$20,583/LAC is a good bet to bounce back (he had 17 assists in 33 minutes against Houston earlier this year), especially if James Harden/$18,913/HOU is hampered by his foot injury.
Golden State* at Memphis Grizzlies (8pm EST)- Over/Under Total= 194; Grizzlies -3
Toney Douglas/$6,118/GSW is a bargain if Stephen Curry/$16,938/GSW doesn’t play.
Dallas Mavericks* at Milwaukee Bucks (8:30pm EST)- Over/Under Total=202; Mavs -3
Keep an eye on the status of Larry Sanders/$12,255/MIL. He’s battling a swollen thumb and will either start, be out or come off the bench. If he doesn’t start, Zaza Pachulia/$11,274/MIL becomes an excellent play.
Portland Trail Blazers* at Sacarmento Kings* (10pm EST)- Over/Under Total=199; Kings -2
Another home-and-home rematch. DeMarcus Cousins/$16,606/SAC rebounded with a strong effort in a losing cause; look for a repeat performance tonight.
My lineup in the $2/$550-entry at DraftStreet (Subject to change; $99,955 spent of $100,000 max):
Stars Worth Starting: Chris Paul/LAC, Paul Millsap/ATL, Rudy Gay/TOR
Bargain Plays: Toney Douglas/GSW, Dion Waiters/CLE, Tristan Thompson/CLE
Speculative Plays: Zaza Pachulia/MIL, Chris Bosh/MIA
If Larry Sanders/MIL and/or Stephen Curry/GSW start, you will need to sub-out Douglas and Pachulia. Expected DraftStreet points: 230.00 (+/- 35.00)
