The NBA saved the best for last, as the Timberwolves and Clippers played a tight game. decided in the final seconds. The key players on both sides came through, especially Kevin Love/MIN, who displayed a rare combination of rebounding and outside shooting prowess that left the Clippers TV announcers speechless at times. Not to be outdone, Blake Griffin/LAC and Chris Paul/LAC were effective on offense. DeAndre Jordan/LAC put up decent numbers, aside from his abysmal free throw shooting. While the starting five edge went to Minnesota, the Clippers’ bench advantage and home crowd was enough to hold on for victory. Here is today’s Fantasy Spin.
Top Fantasy Performers
1) Dwight Howard/HOU. Hack-a-Dwight worked again, but the Rockets held on to win in double-OT. 7 of 12 FGA, 4 of 12 FTA, 24 rebounds, 2 assists, 1 steal, 5 blocks, 3 TO, 18 points.
2) Kevin Love/MIN. From a fantasy perspective, unstoppable. Akin to a Bill Walton/Dirk Nowitzki hybrid. 8 of 19 FGA, 2 of 4 FTA, 19 rebounds, 7 assists, 3 TO, 23 points.
3) Andre Drummond/DET. “Quiet” production. 8 of 9 FGA, 0 of 2 FTA, 16 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals, 1 block, 0 TO, 16 points.
4) Lance Stephenson/IND. Triple-double. 5 of 11 FGA, 11 rebounds, 12 assists, 1 TO, 13 points.
5) Nikola Pekovic/MIN. Both he and Love missed short-range, game-tying attempts in the final three seconds. 11 of 15 FGA, 3 of 4 FTA, 10 rebounds, 1 assist, 2 steal, 0 TO, 25 points.
6) Chris Paul/LAC. His usual production. 7 of 14 FGA, 7 of 8 FTA, 4 rebounds, 11 assists, 4 steal, 6 TO, 21 points.
7) James Harden/HOU. Recovered from a poor start, extra frames helped a lot. 7 of 19 FGA, 9 of 11 FTA, 3 rebounds, 10 assists, 3 steal, 1 blocks, 6 TO, 26 points.
Honorable mention:
Rudy Gay/TOR, Blake Griffin/LAC, Brandon Jennings/DET, Derrick Favors/UTA
Top Sleepers
1) Jordan Crawford/BOS. 7 of 12 FGA, 2 of 2 FTA, 5 rebounds, 10 assists, 1 steal, 0 TO, 16 points.
2) Danny Green/SAS. Not quite as good as Sunday’s game. 6 of 9 FGA, 1 of 1, 7 rebounds, 3 assists, 1 steal, 1 block, 0 TO, 18 points.
3) Kelly Olynyk/BOS. Getting comfortable in his new starting role. 7 of 9 FGA, 7 rebounds, 5 assists, 1 steal, 1 block, 2 TO, 16 points.
4) Josh McRoberts/CHA. 7 of 13 FGA, 6 rebounds, 7 assists, 2 TO, 19 points.
5) Robin Lopez/POR. Did as well as could be expected against the Pistons’ big men. 7 of 10 FGA, 3 of 3 FTA, 10 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 steal, 2 TO, 17 points.
6) Mike Dunleavy/CHI. His productive second half was the difference for the Bulls. 4 of 6 FGA, 5 of 5 FTA, 4 rebounds, 2 assists, 1 steal, 1 TO, 15 points.
7) Marco Belinelli/SAS. Plenty of good minutes in another Spurs blowout. 5 of 11 FGA, 6 rebounds, 2 assists,2 steals, 1 TO, 12 points.
Biggest Busts
1) Paul Millsap/ATL After two great games, he wasn’t involved in the offense much. 2 of 7 FGA, 4 of 4 FTA, 5 rebounds, 1 block, 1 TO, 9 points.
2) Patrick Beverley/HOU. 0 of 5 FGA, 1 of 2 FTA, 4 rebounds, 3 TO, 1 point.
3) Mike Conley/MEM. 4 of 11 FGA, 2 of 3 FTA, 2 assists,1 steal, 1 block, 1 TO, 11 points.
4) Wesley Matthews/POR. The Blazers had other shooting options. 1 of 3 FGA, 1 rebound, 1 assist, 2 steals, 0 TO, 3 points.
5) Kyrie Irving/CLE. Boom to bust. Derrick Rose/CHI did a great job defending. 5 of 19 FGA, 4 of 5 FTA, 2 rebounds, 4 assists, 3 TO, 16 points.
My recommended lineup at DraftStreet last night scored 201.75 points – good enough for a cash in most double-up leagues. Lance Stephenson/IND had his best game of the year and Danny Green/SAS was brilliant again. On the downside, Luol Deng/CHI had a poor shooting night and Roy Hibbert/IND rested much of the second half. Gordon Hayward/UTA had a great first half, but poor shooting in the second half limited his DraftStreet point total.
Tuesday NBA contests at DraftStreet
Though there are only four games on tap tonight, DraftStreet is offering their standard-sized $2 (550 max entry) and $5 (330 max entry) GPPs. You can enter each multi-entry GPP up to three times. I see six double-up GPPs in the lobby as I write. Don’t forget the 10 and 20 max entry non-guaranteed contests; they usually don’t require as high a score to win.
There are only a few days left in DraftStreet’s voucher promotion. If you ever thought about increasing your participate rate in DraftStreet NBA contests, this is the time to do it. All you have to do is enter NBA leagues through November 14th and work your way through vouchers of increasing value, the top one allowing an entry to a $109 contest.
The Anthony Davis Show arrives in Los Angeles
A look at today’s games from a daily fantasy perspective. Dollar figures are DraftStreet prices. An asterisk (*) indicates a team is playing the their second game on back-to-back nights:
Milwaukee Bucks at Miami Heat (7:30pm EST)- Over/Under Total=197.5; Heat -14
The Bucks are injury-riddled and should be run off the court by Miami. With LeBron James/$23,703/MIA, Dwayne Wade/$16,470/MIA and Chris Bosh/$14,245/MIA all likely to sit out most of the fourth quarter, their monster game potential will be limited.
Washington Wizards at Dallas Mavericks (8:30pm EST)- Over/Under Total=206.5; Mavs -5
The Mavericks are a bit like the Timberwolves-lite: they don’t beat themselves. The Wizards might still be feeling the effects of a tough overtime loss to the Thunder.
New Orleans Pelicans at Los Angeles Lakers (10:30pm EST)- Over/Under Total=198.5; Pelicans -3.5
This one should come down to the wire. The Lakers have had time to figure out a strategy against Anthony Davis/$21,523/NOP. The Pelicans need Jrue Holliday/$13,155/NOP to step it up a notch. His understudy, Anthony Morrow/$4,795/NOP, has played very well off the bench. Without Steve Nash/LAL, Steve Blake/$9,020/LAL will continue to get lots of minutes and look for a bump up in Jodie Meeks’/$7,260/LAL playing time as well.
Detroit Pistons* at Golden State Warriors (10:30pm EST)- Over/Under Total=201; Warriors -9
It will be interesting to see which Detroit big man Andrew Bogut/$11,058/GSW defends. I suspect it will be Greg Monroe/$16,815/DET, which means Andre Drummond/$13,803/DET will have more offensive chances than usual.
My lineup in today’s $2/$550-entry at DraftStreet (subject to change; $99,888 spent of $100,000 max):
Stars Worth Starting: Anthony Davis/NOP, David Lee/GSW, Brandon Jennings/DET
Bargain Plays: Steve Blake/LAL, Jason Smith/NOP
Speculative Plays: Jordan Hill/LAL, Jodie Meeks/LAL, Marcin Gortat/WAS
Expected DraftStreet points: 220.00 (+/- 35.00).
