There’s nothing like a juicy rumor floating around the league, and there was one worth discussing from Wednesday involving Iman Shumpert and Kenneth Faried. Both are still developing and we still don’t know who they truly are as of yet in terms of potential, but there is no doubt that plenty of teams are interested in obtaining either player. So are the New York Knicks and Denver Nuggets entertaining offers? That is the question, which we have some answers to below.
STORY OF THE DAY:
The hottest rumor of the day came from Frank Isola of NYDN:
J.R. Smith is starting & Iman Shumpert could be departing. I’m hearing Knicks-Nuggets continue to discuss an Iman for Kenneth Faried trade.
The all-knowing Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports!, however, shot down any notion that this is an ongoing discussion:
Denver has made it clear to Kenneth Faried’s reps: There are no active talks involving him. Knicks offered Shumpert. Denver rejected idea.
There’s been significant interest NBA-wide in Faried, but short of including him into a blockbuster deal, it’s unlikely Denver moves him.
Knicks fans appeared to be devastated by the idea of losing Shumpert, so Woj’s report should provide them some relief. However, there are a number of teams interested in the guard, and the Knicks are undecided on what they want to do. Marc Stein of ESPN has it covered:
But sources told ESPN.com Wednesday that multiple teams interested in Shumpert have approached the Knicks, and said New York remains undecided about whether to trade its coveted perimeter defensive specialist.
QUOTE OF THE DAY:
Upon hearing the rumor involving his name, Iman Shumpert had the following to say in response to Lang Greene of Hoopsworld:
“If it’s going to happen, it will happen,” Shumpert told HOOPSWORLD on the prospect of being traded. “I’m young. I’m an asset. So I’ll be in the [trade] rumors, I guess.”
HIGHLIGHT OF THE DAY:
Jamal Crawford turned Jeremy Lamb around completely with this crossover:
OTHER NEWS FROM AROUND THE LEAGUE:
- Glen Davis, who has yet to play a game this season, has been fined by the team for his behavior off the court, from Ben Golliver of SI: “The Magic announced Wednesday that Glen “Big Baby” Davis has been fined an “undisclosed amount” of money for his involvement in a late-night incident at an Orlando hotel on Saturday. “We will not tolerate or condone this type of behavior,” Magic GM Rob Hennigan. “As we have stated repeatedly, when a player puts on an Orlando Magic uniform, he is representing something much greater than himself. We expect our players to uphold a certain standard of conduct and character at all times.” This isn’t the first time Davis has been disciplined during his Orlando tenure. Davis was fined $35,000 by the NBA in March 2012 when he flipped the bird to fans in Toronto during a Magic win over the Raptors. In February 2012, he was suspended by the Magic for two games after an outburst at a team shootaround.”
- Marcin Gortat doesn’t want to be recognized as a loser, from Jeff Caplan of NBA.com: ““Obviously it puts a lot of pressure [on me],” Gortat said of Washington’s playoff expectation. “Obviously it’s too early to say, but if we’re not going to make the playoffs, then you know, the blame is going to also be on me. I don’t want to be pictured as a guy that left Phoenix, and all of a sudden now the team plays well; and you go to Washington and you play bad. I don’t want to be pictured as a guy that lost all his games. We just got to turn this thing around. We lost the game [Tuesday], we didn’t come out ready to play, and I’m 100 percent sure we’re capable of winning a lot of games in this league. We’ve just got to bring it every night.”… “I definitely see potential in this team,” Gortat said. “I definitely see a group of guys with character, that can really battle when the most important moment comes. I see a lot of veterans who went through hell and now they just want to perform and get back to the playoffs. At the same time, I see a lot of young guys, a lot of rising stars on this team, and players who want to be successful in this league.”
