Yeah, we’re all sick of the Pacers. I will be visiting with them tonight at Madison Square Garden when they destroy the New York Knicks in Mike Woodson’s final game, and I will close this paragraph by reminding y’all that I picked Indiana to win the NBA championship.
I even went on the BBC prior to the season and advised 120 million viewers to place a wager on them when the odds were between 7-1 and 12-1.
Something tells me Ladbroke’s has a contract out on me. And since I live in New York, a Puritan state, I am unable to gamble legally. That really sucks when you call your bookie and ask to take the Grizzlies on the money line at 4.5-to-1 against the Clippers, and the bookie says that particular bet is not available because the line (Clippers -8) was too high for the house to take ML bets. (The Grizzlies won.)
Vegas beckons, and I have the means to relocate and spend a month betting on NBA games, filing a daily diary – and more likely than not contributing to the construction of a new mega-hotel. Then again, I do have talents – and every single night there is one line that is so out of touch with reality, you have to play it.
And to be clear, I am not the first person with this idea. Mark Cuban suggested it as a hedge fund operation back when he first opened BlogMaverick, and Mr. Cuban is a pretty astute businessman.
Option B is a relocation to Venezuela, if Hugo Chavez’s successor will allow me entry. Remember, whenever there is a Miss Universe pageant, Miss Venezuela is the favorite. And it is warm there. And they have Internet, so this site can be run from a Spanish-speaking country, just as HoopsHype is.
Anyway, back to basketball.
We have a new No. 1 in this week’s MVP rankings, and Paul George is not dropping from the top spot because he did anything wrong. The fact of the matter is that his replacement was outstanding – so much that we may have to print a retraction on the hack job we posted lambasting Clay Bennett.
Then again, Kevin Durant and the Thunder will ultimately still have to get past the Spurs, who are flying under the radar as always, an idiosyncrasy that Jan Hubbard delved into in his most recent Sunday column.
On to the rankings, which expand this week from a top five (with Paul George at No. 1) to its regular top-10 format. We will be running these rankings every Wednesday this season, instead of the Sunday spot it occupied last season, as per orders from the boss. (And if you liked that main picture, here is a treat.)
As always, on to the ranks.

Good luck losing your money in Vegas. I recall last season you thought at one point the Knicks were better than the Heat.
