Monday, January 6 was a relatively slow day In the NBA, with just six teams taking part in three games. Nevertheless, there were extraordinary feats by the franchises and players involved in the action on the sixth day of 2014.
Here’s everything that you need to know about last night’s action.
1. Kevin Love put up 26 points and seven rebounds as the Minnesota Timberwolves defeated the Philadelphia 76ers 126-95. Nikola Pekovic added 16 points and 14 rebounds as Minnesota improved to 17-17 overall and 7-11 on the road.
For Love, it was just the fourth time this season that he’s failed to register a double-double. He leads the league with 29 through 33 appearances.
2. DeAndre Jordan was as dominant as possible with 14 points, 17 rebounds and a season-high eight blocks as the Los Angeles Clippers defeated the Orlando Magic 101-81. According to Basketball-Reference.com, Jordan is one of four players to register at least 15 rebounds and eight blocks in the same game since 2006.
The others: Dwight Howard, Serge Ibaka and Joakim Noah.
3. With their win, the Clippers improve to a Western Conference-best 15-3 at home. Surprisingly, the Clippers are also just 9-10 on the road and 8-6 against the weak Eastern Conference.
Only one other team that would currently qualify for the playoffs while owning a losing road record: the Dallas Mavericks.
4. Second-year forward Maurice Harkless of the Magic went off for a season-high 22 points. It was the first time that the former St. John’s star had registered at least 30 minutes of playing time since November 23, 2013.
5. The Brooklyn Nets earned a surprising 91-86 victory over the Atlanta Hawks. Joe Johnson scored 23 points and Mirza Teletovic added 16 as the Nets defeated their Eastern Conference foes.
Brooklyn is 3-0 in 2014.
