RANK | ROOKIE | RUNDOWN | RECENT |
1 | MICHAEL CARTER-WILLIAMS, G, PHILADELPHIA: Is he getting his second wind already? After awful games vs. Miami and Chicago, dropped 31 on Washington before piloting a win at New York with 19 points, 12 rebounds and seven assists. His nine double-doubles are three less than all other rookies combined. | 1
2 | TREY BURKE, G, UTAH: Followed consecutive double-doubles with combined 18 points on 6-of-20 shooting in home-and-home vs. Minnesota, Utah’s first consecutive losses in over a month. Loved how he stayed with it in loss at San Antonio, making tough threes down stretch despite awful start. | 2
3 | VICTOR OLADIPO, G, ORLANDO: Has averaged 16.4 points in his last 11 games, missing double figures just once. Of course, that’s the only game Orlando won in that stretch. Also in there was his impressive rookie season high 35 with eight assists in triple OT loss at Chicago. | 3
4 | PERO ANTIC, C, ATLANTA: Has been more than capable filling huge hole created by Al Horford’s injury, averaging 11.4 points and 5.9 rebounds in 24.6 minutes this month. Dropped a season-high 17 points in win over Miami and had first double-double in win over Orlando, including four big free throws late. | 6
5 | GIANNIS ANTETOKOUNMPO, G-F, MILWAUKEE: Still just scratching the surface of what he can do. Has scored in double figures four times in last six games – including 13-11-5 line vs. Oklahoma City – but only plays really big minutes in blowouts. Someone tell Larry Drew the season is over and play this kid. | 7
6 | TONY SNELL, G, CHICAGO: Averaged 10.8 points while shooting 11-of-28 from deep in a recent five-game stretch that was framed by a pair of donuts. Needs a bit more consistency, but ability to contribute at both wing spots has been a godsend for injury-ravaged Bulls. Also has a very protective mom. | –
7 | TIM HARDAWAY JR., G, NEW YORK: Has cooled off considerably in January after a strong December, averaging 6.0 points on 41 percent shooting this month after going for 11.7 points on 49 percent last month. In addition, Pablo Prigioni’s return isn’t helping him in the minutes department. | 5
8 | KELLY OLYNYK, F-C, BOSTON: Followed a four-minute donut – his shortest stint this season – with career highs of 25 points and seven assists vs. the Lakers. However, that is his only double-digit game this month. Perhaps Rajon Rondo’s return will help this smart big man be more consistent. | 4
9 | C.J. MCCOLLUM, G, PORTLAND: Averaging 5.9 points on 47 percent shooting in 13.6 minutes since returning from a broken foot. It hasn’t taken long for him to gain the trust of coach Terry Stotts, who has opted for the rookie instead of established veteran Dorell Wright at the backup wing spot. | –
10 | RYAN KELLY, F, LA LAKERS: Has been getting minutes on depleted Lakers for a month and now is doing something with them, averaging 16.7 points and 5.3 rebounds on 15-of-28 shooting over last three game s. Also 4-of-10 from the arc and 16-of-16 from the line in that span. Not bad at all. | – |
DROPOUTS: Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, G, Detroit (8); Steven Adams, C, Oklahoma City (9); Ben McLemore, G, Sacramento (10).
FIVE TO WATCH: Nick Calathes, G, Memphis; Shane Larkin, G, Dallas; Phil Pressey, G, Boston; Jeff Withey, C, New Orleans; Cody Zeller, C, Charlotte.
