@mcuban I shouldn’t be reading twitter at the gym, so I’ll give myself the finger pic.twitter.com/Chf0eIn1cn — Ryan Cuddy (@DrCuddy) January 23, 2014

What’s better than calling attention to something that makes no sense at all. #fingersup — Mark Cuban (@mcuban) January 23, 2014
What’s the point to all of this? There isn’t one. That’s, apparently, what it’s all about. The middle finger as an exclamation of anger or disgust makes no sense…or does it?
According to Wikipedia, the finger dates back to ancient times, where it was indicative of the phallus (or male reproductive organ) as well as a rather obscene sexual act. The use of the finger was intended to degrade, intimidate or threaten others.
The finger has, over time, maintained its derogatory roots, still giving spectators the signed equivalent of a phase comprised (in shorthand) of two letters, an F and a U.
As with nearly everything that Cuban does, it seems that he has taken great pleasure in promoting his Twitter-based social experiment. Given his right to freedom of speech, it will be interesting to see if David Stern finds some way to nail him with another ‘last’ fine as he heads out the door.
