Thursday’s national doubleheader went according to plan: the Heat edged out the gritty Lakers and the Blazers rallied on the superb performance of LaMarcus Aldridge/POR and beat the Nuggets in a close game. Today, injuries are front and center again, as a slew of new ones will affect many NBA games tonight. Hardest hit are the Sacramento Kings, with two stars sidelines for at least a few games. Golden State is concerned about the uncertain status of two of their

Schayes: Comparing Today’s Great Scorers with Players from the Past
As I watched the Knicks-Nets game the other night I marveled at the Knicks. It was the middle of the 4th quarter and they had amassed a whopping 68 points, getting drilled in the process by the juggerNets. ‘Melo is a drop-dead scorer, right? His Madison Square Garden-record 62 last night proves it. He draws so much attention that the other guys are usually open, right? J.R. Smith can light it up, shoot you in and shoot you out, right? I keep

After a horrid 11-20 start, the Nets have managed to turn things around since New Year’s,

Love edges Howard by less than 8,000 votes for All-Star starting spot
Kevin Love is more popular than Dwight Howard … but just barely. In one of the closest votes in the history of All-Star balloting, Love edged out Howard for the third frontcourt spot on the Western Conference team. Somethings cannot be explained—except by the person doing them. Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban often does—or says—things that he alone can explain. At times, the best way to explain something he has done is an indirect way of explaining nothing at all: Mark Cuban is going to do Mark Cuban things. Thursday brought with it another such moment when the Cuban took to Twitter to explain his acceptance and tolerance of the middle finger. [Read more…]
Rookie Rankings, Week 12: MCW Hits the Rookie Wall

The roster included Charles Barkley, Kevin Willis and Eddie Johnson, all thirtysomethings who been around the block a couple of times. In late February, the Rockets arrived in New York for a Sunday matinee against the Knicks. Despite sputtering near .500, they were in high spirits – probably a carryover
