The NBA held just two games last night, but both provided their fair share of intrigue. Two teammates set a collective NBA record, while a red-hot Eastern Conference team earned a very rare win over a Western Conference foe.
Here’s everything that you need to know about last night’s action.
1. The Brooklyn Nets continued to be the hottest team in the NBA with a 103-89 victory over the San Antonio Spurs. Alan Anderson scored 22 points and Deron Williams added 16 points and eight assists in 30 minutes as Brooklyn improved to 22-25 overall and 14-11 at home.
Tim Duncan, Manu Ginobili and Tony Parker were all absent due to injuries and rest. Cory Joseph put up career-high marks of 18 points and a season-high four steals in Parker’s place.
2. With its win, Brooklyn improved to 12-4 during its past 16 games. In other words, after going 10-21 before the new year, the Nets are 12-4 during January and February.
3. This marked the Nets’ first win over the Spurs since March 29, 2010. Brooklyn hasn’t defeated San Antonio with Parker and Ginobili present since November 13, 2002.
4. Stephen Curry scored 33 points on 13-of-19 shooting as the Golden State Warriors took down the Chicago Bulls 102-87. Klay Thompson added 22 points to help counter 26 and 13 rebounds from Chicago’s Taj Gibson.
Curry went 4-of-6 from beyond the arc and Klay Thompson converted 3-of-6. It was the 30th consecutive game that both players hit at least one 3-point field goal in the same game.
That’s an NBA record for teammates.
5. Joakim Noah finished with seven points, 11 assists, 10 rebounds and one block for his 23rd double-double of the year. More impressively, Noah became the third player this season to record an assists and rebounds double-double without scoring at least 10 points.
The other two: Nicolas Batum of the Portland Trail Blazers and Lance Stephenson of the Indiana Pacers.
J. Kidd says
“Brooklyn hasn’t defeated San Antonio with Parker and Ginobili present since November 13, 2002.”
Not true! The Nets beat the Spurs, with Parker and Ginobili, on June 11, 2003. To tie the NBA Finals at 2-2.
