Dwyane Wade and the folks over at Gatorade performed a surprise locker room makeover at Riverdale High School in New Orleans, much to their delight.
OTHER NEWS FROM AROUND THE LEAGUE:
- To inspire Deron Williams, Jason Kidd went at it with him on the court, according to Stefan Bondy of Daily News: “During another disappointing and injury-riddled season for Deron Williams, Kidd stepped on the court and went head-to-head with the point guard in a spirited exchange at a recent practice, a source told the Daily News. That’s one way to get through to the underachieving star: challenge him with Hall of Fame skills. Kidd has maintained that he’s too tired and out of shape to put on a uniform again, and NBA rules prohibit player-coaches, anyway — a change from when Bill Russell and Lenny Wilkens held that title in the 1960s and ’70s. But Kidd is still less than a year removed from his final game with the Knicks, and Williams could use some inspiration as he steps into the spotlight for his third return to Utah on Wednesday.”
- Lamar Odom is looking to play basketball again, but not in the NBA, according to Stein of ESPN: “Lamar Odom is on the verge of launching his basketball comeback in Spain. Sources with knowledge of Odom’s thinking told ESPN.com that the 34-year-old has reached an agreement in principle to sign a deal with Laboral Kutxa in Spain’s top league. Such deals typically contain out clauses that allow established veterans such as Odom to return to the NBA if the opportunity arises, but sources said Monday that Odom’s plan is to play out the rest of this season in Spain before determining whether to attempt an NBA comeback.”
- The Philadelphia 76ers are looking for draft picks with the assets they have, according to Keith Pompey of Inquirer: “The 76ers’ focus in the days leading up to Thursday’s NBA trade deadline is acquiring draft picks, according to an Eastern Conference executive. The franchise wants to gain future compensation in exchange for Evan Turner, Spencer Hawes, and Thaddeus Young, said the source, who spoke on condition of anonymity. With the most cap space in the league and an open roster spot, the Sixers will consider acquiring an expiring contract from a team looking to dump a salary. But that most likely will also involve receiving a draft pick.”
- Chris Sheridan has published a list of the 10 players most likely to be traded. No. 1 is Andre Miller, and No. 10 is Rondo.

In regards to the Wolves/Memphis deal, there has to be some more value going to the Wolves to get them to agree to that deal. Prince is stick-a-fork-in-him done at this point in his career and makes over $7m this year and next year. Regardless of what you think of JJ Barea (I think he stinks), but he only makes like $4.5-$5m this year and next. Right there, the Wolves are taking on an even worse contract so they lose there.
Tony Allen is an all-world defender, so he provides osmething the Wolves sorely lack, but he’s signed for 3 years beyond this one. Who wants to pay Tony Allen $5m when he’s 36 years old? Not the Grizzlies…. That’s why they’re trying to move him. On the other side of the coin, Budinger has been injury prone, but only has two years left on his deal after this one (3rd year player option).
All that said, the Wolves need something else to get me to stomach that deal. Maybe a 1st or something like Ed Davis from Memphis. Davis could be a nice experiment as a starting PF if Love were to be traded this offseason.
