The NCAA College Basketball Tournament is underway.
Millions of people had hopes of raking in the cash with Yahoo! and Quicken Loans offering a $1 Billion reward for a perfect bracket. However, most of their hopes have been dashed, thanks in large part to two unlikely upsets.
Los Angeles Lakers guard Kent Bazemore is all about it, having played for a mid-major school that made a Cinderella run of its own, stringing along unlikely upsets with Old Dominion from the Colonial Athletic Association.
I love upsets… #MidMajorsSupportMidMajors

The day started out with an upset in the South Region of the NCAA Tournament as the 11-seed Dayton Flyers defeated the 6-seed Ohio State Buckeyes 60-59 in a thrilling game that was back and forth from beginning to end.
That was further exacerbated by the 5-seed Cincinnati Bearcats falling short in their game against the 12-seed Harvard Crimson 61-57. Though the game was close, Harvard maintained the lead throughout most of the game.
The Crimson’s win was most certainly enjoyed by one NBA athlete, former Harvard point guard Jeremy Lin.
Yesssssssssss HARVARD!!!!!!! Messing up a lot of peoples chances at $1 billion lol #bracketbusters #twoyearsinarow — Jeremy Lin (@JLin7) March 20, 2014
Lin’s current NBA general manager, Daryl Morey of the Houston Rockets, echoed his sentiments, though he didn’t seem to know why.
Harvard shows Ivy league power @JLin7 ! Wait, I didn’t go to Ivy league. Not sure why I am excited… — Daryl Morey (@dmorey) March 20, 2014
Quite a few NBA athletes chimed in with their own excitement after the Crimson knocked off the Bearcats.
Harvard with the win over Cincy! wow great win boys — Andre Drummond (@AndreDrummondd) March 20, 2014
Congrats to Tommy Amaker and @harvardcrimson big time win today!!! — Billy King (@bkdefend) March 20, 2014
Thank you Dayton and Harvard — Lavoy Allen (@chefVOYardee) March 20, 2014
In the grand scheme of things, what everyone has their eyes on is perfection and the hope of gaining a billion dollars. Some, like Dallas Mavericks guard Shane Larkin have their doubts.
Now who can tweet me and show me their bracket is still perfect lol please show me one — Shane Larkin (@ShaneLarkin_3) March 20, 2014
With both Harvard AND Dayton winning! — Shane Larkin (@ShaneLarkin_3) March 20, 2014
However, there are a few like the Chicago Bulls’ Nazr Mohammed who hold out hope of remaining unblemished.
The billion dollars is all mines. I have a perfect bracket #NCAATournament — Nazr Mohammed (@NazrMohammed) March 20, 2014
Hope, especially when accompanied by perfection, is closely followed by its haters. Mohammed has had to fend off hate from former Duke University guard Nolan Smith.
Lol the hate is real RT @NdotSmitty: @NazrMohammed you def picked UK, so that won’t last too much longer big homie! — Nazr Mohammed (@NazrMohammed) March 20, 2014
He may have haters, but the rest of the world just has crushed dreams.
Who’s Brackets Already Messed Up?? — Jason Thompson (@jtthekid) March 20, 2014
