Monday afternoon the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame welcomed its class of 2014 inductees.
For the NBA, it was a great unveiling, as seven-time NBA All-Star and 2006 NBA champion with the Miami Heat Alonzo Mourning and six-time All-Star and Sacramento Kings great Mitch Richmond were announced. They join recently retired NBA commissioner David Stern—who was previously announced.
Stern was voted in by the contributors committee.
They join NCAA champion head coaches in Nolan Richardson and Gary Williams. Former NBA athlete and Lithuanian star Sarunas Marciulionis also joins the class, having been inducted by the international committee. Former Indiana Pacers coach Bob Leonard was voted in by the ABA committee. Late New York Knicks big man Nat Clifton was nominated by the early African-American pioneers committee, and late Temple coach Guy Rodgers was appointed by veterans committee. Also joining the 2014 class is Immaculata University’s AIAW National Championship teams from the early 1970s.
