Amidst controversy surrounding owner Donald Sterling, the Los Angeles Clippers have managed to advance to the second round of the NBA playoffs to play the Oklahoma City Thunder. The Clippers have taken an early 1-0 series lead and home ticket prices have dropped on the secondary market after Monday night’s win.
The Clippers blew out the Thunder in Oklahoma City Monday night, which has interestingly led to a decrease in home prices on the secondary market today. The average price for Los Angeles Clippers tickets at the Staples Center in round 2 is currently $350.02, which is down 7.33% since yesterday when the average was $377.72. With the Clippers not returning to the Staples Center until game 3 on Friday night prices could continue to fall.
Despite the drop in price, overall the Clippers still have a significant increase in average ticket price when compared to the first round when the average price for Los Angeles Clippers playoff tickets was $252.82.
Unlike the Clippers, the Thunder have experienced an increase in average home ticket price after Monday’s game 1 even with a a 17-point loss under their belt. The average price for Thunder playoff tickets at the Chesapeake Energy Arena has risen from yesterday’s price of $263.23 to $274.90 today, a 4.43% increase.
Chris Paul had a stellar start to the series, burying eight 3-pointers and finishing with 32 points and 10 assists as the Clippers cruised to beat the Thunder 122-105 Monday night. Kevin Durant scored 25 points but it wasn’t enough to stop Paul and the Clippers, who outscored the Thunder in every quarter but the fourth when the reserves took over. Durant and Russell Westbrook have their work cut out for them if Paul continues to play as efficiently as he has. Expect plenty of run-and-gun type of play throughout the series as the two teams battle for a spot in the Conference Finals.
Ticket prices at the Staples Center have dropped on the secondary market, but the Clippers continue to play at a championship-caliber level. Game 2 will be played Wednesday night in Oklahoma City as the Clippers look to take a commanding 2-0 series lead.
