Let’s call it how it was: the Conference Semifinals and Conference Finals were relatively underwhelming. Fortunately, the 2014 NBA Finals have righted all past wrongs with some outstanding competition.
Game 2 of the 2014 NBA Finals took place on Sunday, June 8. Fresh off of the infamous cramp-and-air-conditioning incident, LeBron James erupted with a monster performance as the Miami Heat looked to avoid a 2-0 hole against the home team San Antonio Spurs.
Here’s everything that transpired.
1. LeBron James put up 35 points and 10 rebounds on 14-of-22 shooting, and Chris Bosh stepped up in the fourth as the Miami Heat defeated the San Antonio Spurs 98-96. After posting a first-quarter dud, LeBron was close to unstoppable, sinking critical shots from all over the floor.
With its win, Miami brings the series to a 1-1 tie.
2. With 18 points and 15 rebounds, Tim Duncan recorded his 157th career postseason double-double. That ties Magic Johnson for the most in NBA history.
3. The Heat have won their past 13 playoff games following a loss. That brings Miami’s tally to 47 straight playoff games without back-to-back losses.
The only two teams with better stretches in NBA history are the 1962-66 Boston Celtics with 54 and the 1990-93 Chicago Bulls with 52.
4. San Antonio’s loss snaps a nine-game home winning streak in the playoffs.
5. Miami has won at least one road game in 16 straight postseason series. That’s an NBA-record.
Bonus Fact: Ray Allen sank his 50th career three-point field goal in the NBA Finals. That’s six behind Robert Horry for the all-time record.
