You can either suggest that the Knicks chose to give Fisher what they wouldn’t offer to Kerr as some sign of spite, or it might be fair to simply think that Kerr’s contract established the market for former triangle offense players capable of stepping in as a head coach under Phil’s tutelage.
Despite the fact that Jason Kidd has established that players who retire directly into a head coaching position are capable of winning with the Brooklyn Nets, Fisher does not inherit a roster nearly as competitive. He has a much tougher road ahead, and Phil will have to help by building a team capable of running the triangle.
Still, with all the obstacles that face him, he has plenty of supportive peers and contemporaries.
