LeBron James, Carmelo Anthony, Chris Bosh and Dwyane Wade entered the league as four of the top five selections in the 2003 NBA Draft.
Now, 11 years later, they all could join forces in South Beach.
With rumors swirling about a possible alliance in Miami, Phil Jackson and Derek Fisher will reportedly meet with Anthony this weekend to discuss the player option on his contract and how he can be a fit in the triangle offense with the Knicks going forward.
Can Jackson and Fisher sell Anthony on remaining in a New York state of mind?
Can James convince Anthony to take his talents to South Beach?
I joined Chicago’s 670 The Score and host Joe Ostrowski to discuss the chances of Anthony joining the Heat, his upcoming meeting with Jackson and Fisher, and more.

Only if James wants to play for the Vet Minimum, would it be possible to accommodate Melo, as long as DWade refused to opt-out of his 20.2 million.
And why should Bosh and DWade agree with this plan, without a guarantee from Melo? But in order to have a guarantee, that will mean that the Heat are acting improperly and should be fined heavily, including loss of draft picks.
And why would anyone think that Melo would accept a contract to play for Heat for about 60 million over 4 years, when he could go to the Bulls and receive 90-98 million over 4 and be the Star of a well balanced championship team (if Rose is healthy).
I can see Dolan filing a complaint with the NBA to stop this illegal Heat arrangement. And if LeBron were to accept the Vet Min, there would be complaints too. In the latter case you could have DWade keeping his 20.2 M + 13 M for Bosh (4 year deal), and 19 million for Melo (over 4 years). You still have Cole at 2 M, Haslem at 4.62 M & Birdman can re-sign LAST using his Early Bird.
Chalmers could return using a smaller MLE, but anyone else would have to take the Vet Minimum. You would have a $915,000 cap hold for Birdman (per ShamSports) and about 3.5 million in cap holds to account for the 63.2 M salary cap.
So just because Melo will opt-out doesn’t mean he’s up to anything wrong, as he has other options.
But if the Big Three all opt-out, it will raise suspicions and probably a warning from the NBA.
And what if the 3 opt out but Melo doesn’t join them? Would the Heat re-sign all 3 for 4 or 5 year contracts? Why would LeBron want to commit to Miami if he knows with DWade is in decline, and he’s not going to win a championship without help from Melo?
As Larry Coon says its a Pipe Dream. I see all 3 staying with Heat for another year with LeBron weighing his options in June 2015 – possibly returning to Cavs.
