It is crystal ball time as NBA free agency is opening, and anybody who tries to predict the future does so at considerable risk given the way things change by the hour in the NBA these days. Just ask Larry Drew.
Free agency begins at 12:01 a.m. Tuesday, and the biggest fish that could be caught is Carmelo Anthony. Apologies to LeBron James, but pretty much everyone is convinced he is staying in Miami.
One team that has been under the radar in free agency predictions is the Los Angeles Lakers, who have only two players under contract for next season: Kobe Bryant, and Steve Nash.
And as for the Heat, are they going o be able to find a way for field a Big Four? And might Trevor Ariza or Marcin Gortat be the missing piece they will be seeking?
There are all kinds of questions as June turns into July, and I answered a bunch of them in this video with CineSport’s Noah Coslov.

Chris; the Knicks don’t want to pay him $ 30 million more; that’s clear ( its basically the 5th year , age 35, at close to $ 30 million)- so, the 5th year the CBA allows the Knicks is not good, its bad- who wants Carmelo at age 35 for approx $ 30 million. None, including Phil. Phil started this ” take less” campaign for that reason. So, the CBA hurts the Knicks, they would “look bad” by not offering the max (what an insult), but they shouldn’t offer the max. Phil knows that. So he had to ( very smartly) start this media campaign to paint Carmelo ” as greedy” ( brilliant). Sure, the old “that’s the Knicks way” would have been –give the max, Carmelo signs, everyone happy today, big press conference, etc. Then media kills the Knicks in years 3, 4 and 5 when he is grossly overpaid. Phil is trying to stop that. I think Phil will say, here’s 4 years, same money as Chicago, Houston, etc can offer. So why move your family, you look good in front of Knicks fans, you get same $$ as if you left. So, why move. Is there any guarantee Chicago wins ? No, of course not !! ( what’s the under for Rose , 30 games ?) How about Houston ? In the tough West. Please !! Where’s the D ? Looking at you, Harden. ( If Portland exploited it in Round 1, how does Houston survive 3 rounds in the West ?) Plus Asik spelled Dwight 15- 20 minutes a game. Where’s that now, in Dwight’s 10th year ?? So, Phil can can poke holes in ” I want a ring” with Chicago or Houston or anyone else ( except Heat, and Carmelo is not even visiting the Heat, for many reasons).
