No matter how close players on a team are, trades are as inevitable as anything else in the NBA. In fact the only constant one can ever truly expect is that things change, and fast. For the veteran Steve Novak, this truth became a reality once again.
The three-point specialist was traded from the Toronto Raptors to the Utah Jazz for a future second round pick. This will be the third team for Novak in three years as he was traded to the Raptors from the New York Knicks prior to last season, and was forced to get acquainted with a whole new set of teammates. While his locker room presence will surely be missed, his teammate Grievis Vasquez took to twitter to bid Novak farewell.
At least that’s what one can only assume Vasquez was doing. The only problem is that the Steve he referred to in his tweet, was Los Angeles Lakers point guard Steve Nash.
For the record, @SteveNash is the best teammate.. Words can’t describe your help towards me homie.. I’m going to miss you hermano Novak.
— Greivis Vasquez (@greivisvasquez) July 6, 2014
A brief fact check will confirm that Steve Nash and Grievis Vaquez have never played on a team together at any level. While the later half of the tweet does indeed reference Steve Novak, the first portion of it mistakenly identifies him as the Lakers current point guard instead. In Vasquez’s defense Nash is a 5 time NBA assist leader, so it’s not too far-fetched to suggest that he is also a good teammate on his respective squad.
It’s a minor mistake, but certainly a humorous one. Regardless of anything else, the point of it all is that Steve Novak will be missed as he moves on to his next destination.
