There’s something about a uniform number that just can’t be described. There have been reports of competitions and compensation for a number, with some payments even reaching the high thousands.
As LeBron James prepares for a return to the Cleveland Cavaliers, both of his preferred numbers are available. The question is, which one will he choose to wear in 2014-15?
Will it be the No. 6 that he donned as a member of the Miami Heat from 2010 to 2014? Or will it be the No. 23 that he wore as a high school star and as a member of the Cavaliers from 2003 to 2010?
You decide.
The caption: “6 or 23?……”
The use of social media has always been one of James’ greatest off-the-court strengths and marketing ploys. This takes it to a new level.
Fans could play a major role in deciding which number James goes by in 2014-15. He could potentially finishes his career with it.
All eyes are on the iconic No. 23, which Michael Jordan popularized between 1984 and 2003. MJ did have a brief stint as No. 45 and even spent one game as No. 12.
James could follow suit by going from No. 23 to a new number, No. 6, and then back to No. 23 again. James and Jordan are compared in every other walk of life, so why not this?
My vote is for No. 23.

As weird as it sounds, he should already be thinking about his number(s) being retired. I’ve heard the argument that the Cavs will never retire #23 because of how he left Cleveland, so he should choose #6 so his number can be happily retired by the Cavs. Well that’s bogus to me because James’ first stint with the Cavs was still the seven best years in their history. We can’t just ignore James past with us because of “The Decision.” If James does go back to #23 then his number can be retired without the question of whether both numbers he wears should be retired, which would be a legitimate concern in the future. Then, he’s only ever worn #23 as a Cav, and will always be associated with the Cavs as #23, much more pro-legacy. It also separates his career from being a Cav and being a Heat.

I think he should return to #23
