The Cleveland Cavaliers and Minnesota Timberwolves have reached an agreement in principle that would send All-Star forward Kevin Love to the Cavs, according to a report from Yahoo! Sports.
According to the report, the Timberwolves receive Andrew Wiggins, the top pick in this year’s draft; Anthony Bennett, the top pick in last year’s draft who struggled as a rookie; and a 2015 protected first-round pick.
Love joins LeBron James and Kyrie Irving in Cleveland, forming arguably the best trio in the NBA and making the Cavaliers the clear-cut favorites in the Eastern Conference.
The deal cannot be formally announced until Aug. 23, which marks 30 days after Wiggins signed his rookie scale contract with the Cavs. Until then, both teams can pull out of the deal, but that is highly unlikely.
The report also said that Love will sign a five-year, $120 million contract with Cleveland next summer after opting out of the final year of his current deal.
Last month, the Cavs signed Irving to a five-year, $90 million extension, and James signed a two-year, $42 million deal to return to his home state after four highly successful seasons in Miami.
This package has been reported for some time by several outlets and inched closer to completion when Wolves owner Glen Taylor said a deal would be done by Aug. 23 or 24. According to the report, there is no third team involved.
Cleveland’s package for Love apparently trumped offers from Golden State and Chicago, both of which contained established players but neither of which contained a future first-round pick.

Or, as ESPN said on the radio this morning, as they typically do when they steal another reporter’s stuff, this is “according to ESPN and media reports.”

AJ, as I recall you are a huge Cavs guy. How do you feel about what has happened this summer?
