Not many people are criticizing Kevin Durant for quitting Team USA nearly two weeks after the team began training camp, but I am an exception. I thought it was a poor choice by a guy who let down his national team coach and teammates — even if the majority of folks want to give him a pass.
But as we look closer at Durant’s decision, it raises some questions. Is he getting bad advice from Jay Z and Roc Nation, who represent him?
Is sneaker money more important than keeping your word to your coach and teammates?
And is Roc Nation making the right kinds of endorsement deals for Durant, who is negotiationg with UnderArmour and adidas as he ponders leaving Nike.
My answers in this interview with Marc Daniels, host of “The Beat of Sports” on 740-The Game in Orlando.
Lenning says
I think Durant made the right decision, the man was spent and not 100% there mentally and physically. It takes a big man to step down when so many are depending on you and you know they are better off without you.
Also with regards to Roc Nation, I’m not a fan of JayZ but I applaud the signing with Kind and what the health food company stands for. It’s about time that a major superstar athlete advertise a brand that follows similar principles to what his own healthy eating regimen looks like. Soo tired of seeing athletes doing a crappy fast food chain commercial where kids impressionable minds think it’s cool to eat a big mac.
So to that I say nice work JayZ, nice work.
