Last week we chronicled the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge as it it began to sweep through the NBA. Well, the challenge is still going strong, with many of the league’s top stars (like LeBron James) having participated — both in getting splashed with icy cold water and giving money to the cause.
There are a number of players still taking on the challenge even today.
Houston Rockets center Dwight Howard took the challenge in stride, facing it like few have before. He ventured to a Chick-fil-A and made use of a 32-gallon trash can, which was used to pour icy water over his head. He added some incentives for others to continue to take on the challenge:
I got a lot of challenges this week to do the #ALSicebucketchallenge some including josh Powell, sip,Jodie meeks and from my bff Chandler Parsons lol. I accept those challenges. I challenge Pat Beverly, Stehpen A smith and all of you! For every video posted in the next 24 hours with the hastag “Dwight Howard ALS ” I will donate $5 to ALS. I will also give two tickets to a game this season to the three people who post the most creative ice bucket videos! Good luck”. Also want to s/o #chick-fil-A and the staff for participating and letting us use their location #dwighthowardals
That’s quite creative and generous of him to offer to donate $5 for each person that does the challenge and tags him using #dwighthowardALS.
Among the many to have challenged Howard was his former teammate and close friend Chandler Parsons.

TNT NBA analyst and Indiana Pacers Hall of Fame guard Reggie Miller accepted the challenge and called out his TNT cohorts: Kenny the Jet Smith, Shaquille O’Neal, Charles Barkley and Mark Jackson.

There were plenty of others who have done the challenge and have donated money. Still, for all the good that the Ice Bucket Challenge has yielded, there are still those who question it. Enter Philadelphia 76ers rookie Joel Embiid.
I feel like the ALS challenge is another form of Harlem Shake. I mean we can all just donate right?

To the detractors, all that need be said is follow the money. At the time of our last update, ESPN’s Darren Rovell that $9.5 million had been raised in donations associated with the Ice Bucket Challenge. As of today, The ALS Association was reporting that $22.9 million has been raised — $21 million more than was raised in the same time span last year. The ALS Association is very grateful for the generosity of those who have received the Ice Bucket Challenge.
