Friday brought about the first media days for a few NBA teams. The Miami Heat, New York Knicks, San Antonio Spurs and Cleveland Cavaliers were among the teams meeting the media before the start of training camp.
The Heat are the defending Eastern Conference champions but are retooling. The Knicks are beginning the Phil Jackson era. The Spurs are trying to defend their NBA title. But no team got as much attention Friday as the Cavaliers.
With LeBron James returning home, Cleveland welcomed what was said to be around 300 media members from all over the world. From Israel to Germany to Brazil, they were there to witness King James back in a Cavaliers uniform for the first time in four years.

Not only is this the first we’ve seen of James in a Cavs uni since his decision to return, but also the first we’ve seen of his new signature shoe – the LeBron 12 – since its release last week. This photo was taken from LeBron’s official Instagram during media day.
With 10 new players. a new coach in David Blatt and a fairly new GM in David Griffin, the Cavs were the center of the basketball universe Friday – and will be for the foreseeable future.
Tristan Thompson posted this selfie today to his Instagram with his new teammate Kevin Love. He doesn’t seem too upset that Love is taking his starting job.
Love joining James and Kyrie Irving in Cleveland was perhaps the second-most talked-about event of the summer, trailing only “The Return of The King,” James is back in Cleveland with a host of new players, including Shawn Marion, Mike Miller and James Jones, all of whom have won an NBA championship.
With these franchise-changing moves, there comes great expectations. The Cavs are widely considered the favorites in the East and have a chance to hoist the Larry O’Brien Trophy come next June. When you have the game’s best player, two of the top 20 players in the league beside him and a deep bench with solid veterans, media and fans alike will be banking on you to win it all.
There are many questions surrounding the NBA’s newest super team – whether LeBron can deliver Cleveland its first championship in a major sport in more than 50 years, and if the newest “Big Three” can mesh on the court. James, Irving and Love will start answering to those questions when the Cavs begin training camp Saturday morning in Cleveland.
