In case you missed it, Phoenix Suns forwards and twin brothers Markieff and Marcus Morris received contract extensions Monday.
They joined Cleveland Cavaliers All-Star guard Kyrie Irving as the only players thus far from the 2011 NBA draft to receive extensions. Irving received a five-year maximum extension at the outset of the offseason and the Morris twins received four-year deals for $32 million and $20 million, respectively.
There are as many as a dozen players from the 2011 draft whom you could argue deserve extensions, and that doesn’t include Minnesota Timberwolves point guard Ricky Rubio, who was part of the 2009 draft class but spent two years in Spain and is now due as well.
But who will get paid? And how much? The deadline is Halloween, still five weeks away. But you know these things always go down to the last minute.
In this video with Noah Coslov of Cinesport, I talk about the handful of players who could receive extensions averaging eight figures – and the one who deserves a max extension alongside Irving.
