The “hazing” – if that’s what you want to call it – of rookies and young players by veterans happens in almost all college and professional sports. Carrying bags or equipment, paying for meals and ridiculous haircuts are just a few examples of such hazing. Anything along the lines of giving them a small sense of embarrassment and humiliation usually works.
One common approach by veterans is to somewhat emasculate the rookie. Whether it’s football, baseball or basketball, male athletes are seen as strong, rugged individuals who don’t take kindly to being referred to as weak.
However, if you’re a rookie baller for the New Orleans Pelicans, the veterans do not care about this perception. Ryan Anderson posted this photo on Thursday to Instagram with teammate Jimmer Fredette to prove that.
Obviously he’s looking out for his rookies and making sure they travel in style.
In the caption, Anderson let his followers know these pretty bags will be the luggage toted around by Pelicans rookies Russ Smith and Patric Young.
Anderson found Young to give him his new luggage, in which he posted this picture to his Instagram.
In a comment made by fellow Pelican Jeff Withey, he only has one question: “This photos kinda awkward.. Why are you in your underwear?”
Perhaps the bigger question here is, Who got the cuter bag?
