Whether you’re a die hard or casual NBA fan, you know who Kevin Durant is. He’s the reigning MVP from last season, and just about everyone has seen and loved his MVP Trophy speech. It was his first MVP award, earning it after he helped lead the Oklahoma City Thunder to a two-seed in the Western Conference.
Durant proved he was the only choice for the award after fellow All-Star teammate Russell Westbrook missed more than 30 games. Throughout that stretch, Durant was an absolute beast. He put up stats that only an MVP-caliber player could.
During the stretch of games without Westbrook, KD ripped of a twelve game streak where he scored 30 or more points. A few of the games he score 40 or more, and once even dropped 54. This was the longest streak of its kind in the past decade, passing LeBron James and Kobe Bryant, who accomplished the feat in ten consecutive games.
Unfortunately for Durant and Oklahoma City, news broke last weekend that he suffered a Jones fracture in his right foot. This is a type of fracture that occurs on the outside of the foot.
He was given a timetable for return of about 6-8 weeks, although nothing is too clear at this point. Durant had surgery on Thursday, posting these pics to his Instagram on Thursday and Friday displaying his cast.
In the photo below posted Friday, KD is playing NBA2K15, a video game in which he himself is on the cover of the case.
Durant let his followers know that he would be back, but for a while he’d be “hobbling around”.
I think it’s safe to say he’ll be playing as himself in the virtual world rather than being out on the court for most of the next two months. It’s a shame really. Durant is one of the bright young stars, if not the star, in the NBA. Let’s hope for a speedy recovery, because KD makes the game that much more exciting to watch.
