As many fans often suggest, Sunday is a day for football. And, with the NBA’s 2014-15 regular season yet to have started, many fans, including those within the association, have their eyes afixed on the entertainment that is the National Football League.
The Sunday Night Football game between the Broncos and 49ers drew attention from many eyes around the NBA, among which included 13-time NBA champion and New York Knicks president of basketball operations Phil Jackson.

My two favorite #NFL teams battling it out right now! #broncosVS49ers — Anthony Tolliver (@ATolliver44) October 20, 2014
Denver quarterback Peyton Manning entered the game with 506 total career touchdowns, two shy of Brett Favre’s NFL record of 508.
Manning completed 22 of 26 passes for 318 yards and threw four touchdowns in the game. He had three TDs in the first half, passing the record with ease, as he led the Broncos to a lopsided 42-17 victory over Colin Kaepernick and the 49ers.
Many athletes around the NBA, including reigning league MVP Kevin Durant and two-time NBA champion LeBron James, took to Twitter to congratulate Manning on the amazing career accomplishment.

Manning is, like a couple of the athletes congratulating him, a walking legend and active hall of famer. His greatness was never in doubt, but the achievement of this record only serves to further validate his place among the upper-echelon of the greatest to ever don cleats, pads and a helmet.
What Durant said about him rings quite true. His consistency as a great quarterback has so often met or exceeded the bulk of the expectations placed upon him that we, as fans, do take his greatness for granted. We expect his performances to be great and turn away knowing it will be so, not realizing that we have the unique opportunity to witness something special in sports history.
As basketball fans, we should likely take that thought to heart when viewing the careers of athletes like James and Durant, both of whom are two rare generational talents.
