The great crew for the talk show “Open Court” on NBATV opened up a can of worms when they discussed which 10 players should be added to the current list of 50 Greatest Players in NBA History. It’s only right that more are added to the prestigious list, and it should continue to happen over a certain period of time, given the number of fantastic players that came after the original list was announced and the unknown players that will rise in

SH Blog: Utah Jazz sign 5-year-old with cancer; Nuggets and Faried rework contract
The Utah Jazz may not have many highlights this season, but they had one Monday night. The team signed five-year-old cancer patient JP Gibson to a one-day contract for the team’s scrimmage at EnergySolutions Arena in Salt Lake. He was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia in 2012. It was mid-way through the third quarter when the crowd started to cheer. If you wanted to know why, you looked down. Rocking his full uniform and wristband, JP trotted on the court like
Tweet of the Day: Kobe Bryant, Like LeBron James, Addresses Impact of New TV Deal
Cleveland Cavaliers superstar and four-time league MVP LeBron James recently made waves when asked about the impact that the NBA’s new television rights deal will have on future collective bargaining (CBA) negotiations. He took a very strong stance. The whole thing that went on with the last negotiation process was the owners was telling us that they were losing money. There’s no way they can sit in front of us and tell us that right now.” SheridanHoops managing editor Chris Bernucca detailed
Photo of the Day: Matthew Dellavedova or Anderson Varejao?
Finally, we have real basketball action. Yeah, it’s just the preseason, but it’s better than nothing. There are plenty of new story lines throughout the league, and preseason basketball can be a spark to light the fire in some upcoming rivalries. For example, the Cleveland Cavaliers and Miami Heat. They aren’t exactly rivals, but with the “Decision” and “I’m Coming Home” stories that effected both teams similarly, every time the two face off against each other they’ll be under a microscope.
Sheridan: Looking at Projected Win/Loss Totals
For those who gamble, the preseason over/under win projections are wondrous to pore over. It is the one point during the year when you can make an assessment of how the offseason went, and how it will translate into success — or lack hereof — on the court. Last season, two-thirds of the NBA teams failed to reach their projected win total. This season, nobody is projected to win 60 games by the oddsmakers in Las Vegas, which I find interesting. It
Eisenberg: With Management Mess, Hawks Look For Stability on Court
Before Bruce Levenson’s infamous email and Danny Ferry’s infamous scouting recital, the Atlanta Hawks were actually one of the quietest teams in the NBA this offseason. In the face of one of the most active transaction cycles in NBA history, Atlanta’s limited action in free agency was by design. General sentiment within the organization was – and remains – that the team will take an important leap forward as long as they remain healthy. After all, before center Al Horford tore his right pectoral –
SH Blog: Pierce and Noah Nearly Come to Blows, Kenneth Faried Extends
Seriously. It’s only the preseason. Things got heated during a preseason game between the Chicago Bulls and Washington Wizards. A Hall of Fame forward with a chip on his shoulder and an award-winning center whose relentless energy has been known to frustrate many an opponent nearly came to blows. Before the games even begin to matter. [Read more…]
Tweet of the Night: Tony Allen reacts to Paul Pierce’s scuffle with Joakim Noah
It’s only the first week of preseason and nothing truly counts for anything just yet, but that didn’t stop the first scuffle of the season between the Chicago Bulls and Washington Wizards on Monday. There was plenty of bad blood between the two teams when they met last season in the first round of the playoffs, particularly when this play happened between Jimmy Butler and Nene Hilario. Butler was in the center of a foul play again when newly-added Paul Pierce fouled
