The 2014-15 NBA regular season continued on Sunday, November 2. 10 teams took the court in five games that included explosive scoring outputs, close encounters and a historic feat by one of the game’s brightest stars.
Here’s everything that you need to know about last night’s action.
1. Carmelo Anthony dropped 28 points and Amar’e Stoudemire put up 17 and 10 rebounds as the New York Knicks defeated the Charlotte Hornets 96-93. Al Jefferson had 21 points and Lance Stephenson put up an efficient 14, nine rebounds, eight assists and three steals, but Charlotte couldn’t pull out the win.
With his performance, Anthony became the 40th player to score 20,000 points.
2. Anthony is the sixth-youngest player to reach 20,000 points. The only players younger were LeBron James, Kobe Bryant, Wilt Chamberlain, Michael Jordan and Oscar Robertson in that order.
3. Chris Bosh tallied 21 points and 11 rebounds, and Dwyane Wade put up 19 points, 11 rebounds, seven assists and two blocks to lead the Miami Heat to a 107-102 victory over the Toronto Raptors. Luol Deng scored 18 points to round out Miami’s trio of stars, while DeMar DeRozan put up 30 points and four steals for Toronto.
At 3-0, Miami is the last undefeated team in the Eastern Conference.
4. DeMarcus Cousins demolished the Los Angeles Clippers’ interior defense with 34 points, 17 rebounds, five assists and three blocks to lead the Sacramento Kings to a 98-92 upset. Rudy Gay was brilliant again, this time posting 25 points, seven rebounds, six assists, one block and a steal, helping Sacramento overcome 16 points, 11 assists, five rebounds, four steals and a block from Chris Paul.
Cousins and Gay combined for 59 points, 24 rebounds and 11 assists on 59.5 percent shooting from the floor. The rest of the Kings combined for 39 points, 22 rebounds and 10 assists on 38.7 percent shooting.
5. Klay Thompson scored 29 points and Stephen Curry had 21 to get the Golden State Warriors past the Portland Trail Blazers 95-90. LaMarcus Aldridge put up 26 points and 13 rebounds for Portland, but the Trail Blazers failed to close out what appeared to be a win.
This is just the fourth time in his four NBA seasons that Thompson has scored at least 25 points in consecutive games.
Bonus Fact: Aldridge had more rebounds against the Warriors, 13, than he had in his first two games combined, seven.
