Everyone who is an NBA fan has been missing one thing throughout the summer and the start of the regular season: Metta World Peace. But wait, we can no longer call him that, right? Is he the Panda’s Friend? Or still Metta?
No matter what he goes by, World Peace is always entertaining, and downright hilarious. This past season ended his tenure in the NBA with the New York Knicks. He took his talents overseas to China, playing in the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) for the Sichuan Blue Whales.
His contract will pay him $1.43 million, making him the highest paid player in the CBA, just over Emmanuel Mudiay and Stephon Marbury, the latter an ex-NBAer and the former a future.
Okay, now back to the actual photo of the day. Nothing could have prepared me for what World Peace/Panda’s Friend posted from his Twitter account on Wednesday (or Thursday in China?).
The sneakers though

This photo is real. No it is not photoshopped, and yes, those are little panda bear heads on his sneakers. I’ll give you a minute to wipe the tears and catch your breath.
…
If you’re still giddy and can’t focus on anything but the shoes, I understand.
But this is just what we expect from Metta. Even though it’s hard to expect exactly what he’s going to do next, which is every bit of the fun, these types of things come as no surprise from him.
You gotta love his caption for the picture: “The sneakers though”. Classic.
According to Marc Stein of ESPN and Alex Kennedy of Basketball Insiders via HoopsHype, the Los Angeles Clippers are reportedly interested in the services of one friend of a panda. Stein and Kennedy point out that Panda’s Friend has made it known that he would like to play out his contract in China, and would then consider coming back to the NBA. The CBA season ends around February and March.
Please, all we ask Metta/Panda/Ron, bring those shoes to the States and create some sort of trend across the NBA. If that happens, you can retire and go out a true champion.
