With the NFL and WWE’s Survivor Series stealing headlines, the NBA quietly put forth an excellent day of action on Sunday, November 23. A rivalry was rekindled, stars came out in phenomenal form and a number of games went down to the wire.
Here’s everything that you need to know about the NBA action on Sunday, November 23.
1. LaMarcus Aldridge put up 20 points and 14 rebounds as the Portland Trail Blazers pulled one out against the Boston Celtics 94-88. Damian Lillard added 12 points, nine rebounds, five assists and four steals to overcome 19 points from both Jeff Green and Jared Sullinger.
Portland has won seven consecutive games.
2. Marc Gasol went off for 30 points, 12 rebounds and two blocks on 13-of-18 shooting to lead the Memphis Grizzlies to a 107-91 decimation of the Los Angeles Clippers. Chris Paul led the Clippers with 22 points, five rebounds, five assists and four steals, but LA. couldn’t get it going as a team.
Gasol has back-to-back 30-point games. He failed to score 30 in a single game during the 2013-14 season.
3. Chris Bosh, Mario Chalmers and Luol Deng took over to lead the Miami Heat past the Charlotte Hornets 94-93. Deng led the charge with 26 points, Bosh posted 20 points and 10 rebounds, and Chalmers tallied 20 points and 10 assists.
Chalmers has two double-doubles in 2014-15. He had two in his first six seasons combined.
4. Marreese Speights scored a season-high 28 points to help the Golden State Warriors pick up a 91-86 road victory over the Oklahoma City Thunder. Golden State’s starters shot just 15-of-54, but Speights’ scoring outburst and smothering defense was enough to help the team get the win.
At 10-2, the Warriors are off to the best start in franchise history.
5. Ty Lawson put up 18 points and 16 assists as the Denver Nuggets emerged with a 101-94 overtime road victory over the Los Angeles Lakers. Wilson Chandler scored a team-high 19 points for Denver, while Kobe Bryant put up a game-high 27 points and Jordan Hill tallied 11 points and 14 rebounds for the Lakers.
Denver has won four consecutive games and is 5-1 since starting 1-6.
Bonus Fact: Chris Bosh has six double-doubles in 2014-15. He had six in all of 2013-14.
