The 2014-15 NBA regular season continued on Saturday, November 29. So too did one of the worst periods of ineptitude in league history.
Fortunately, it wasn’t all bad in the association. There was a slate of six games featuring 12 teams, and both individuals and teams achieved significant feats.
Here’s how it all transpired.
1. Marcin Gortat put up 24 points, 13 rebounds, two assists, four blocks and two steals to lead the Washington Wizards past the New Orleans Pelicans 83-80. Anthony Davis put up 30 points, 13 rebounds and one steal for the Pelicans, but it wasn’t enough to pick up the win.
This was Washington’s first win against a Western Conference foe in 2014-15.
2. Davis has a league-best four games with at least 30 points and 10 rebounds in 2014-15. DeMarcus Cousins is No. 2 with three.
3. Tyson Chandler put up 20 points, 13 rebounds, three assists and four steals to lead the shorthanded Dallas Mavericks to a 110-103 victory over the Philadelphia 76ers. K.J. McDaniels posted career-high marks of 21 points and 13 rebounds with two blocks and a steal, but Philadelphia fell short once again.
The Sixers are 0-16—the worst start in franchise history.
4. Michael Carter-Williams finished with an unofficial quadruple-double with 18 points, a career-high 16 assists, 10 rebounds and 10 free throws made. Officially, it was his third career triple-double.
5. Philadelphia is 4-48 in its past 52 games. Only the 1992-93 Dallas Mavericks have ever been worse at 3-49.
6. Kevin Love put up 28 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Cleveland Cavaliers to a 109-97 victory over the Indiana Pacers. Kyrie Irving added 24 points, 10 rebounds, five assists and three steals, and LeBron James tallied 19 points, seven assists, two boards and a steal.
Cleveland has won three in a row and is back above .500 for the first time since November 17.
7. Indiana is 7-10. It didn’t lose its 10th game of 2013-14 until January 30.
8. Blake Griffin scored 28 points on 13-of-18 shooting and Chris Paul put up 17 points and 10 assists to lead the Los Angeles Clippers to a 112-96 victory over the Utah Jazz. Jamal Crawford scored 22 points for the Clippers, while Gordon Hayward put up 30 for the Jazz.
Hayward has four 30-point games in November. He had three in all of 2013-14.
9. James Harden put up 34 points, eight assists, six rebounds and four steals to lead the Houston Rockets past the Milwaukee Bucks 117-103. Donatas Motiejunas added 20 points, six rebounds and four assists, while Jabari Parker had 19 points, nine rebounds, five assists and two steals on 13-of-14 shooting from the free throw line.
At 13-4, Houston is off to its best start since 1996-97. It reached the Western Conference Finals that season.
10. Paul Millsap posted 18 points and Jeff Teague tallied 10 assists to lead the Atlanta Hawks past the Charlotte Hornets 105-75. P.J. Hairston scored a career-high 15 points for the Hornets, but Charlotte’s awful start to the season continued.
The Hornets have lost nine consecutive games.
Bonus Fact: Jason Terry scored 18 points against the Bucks. That’s his highest scoring total since February 7.
