The 2014-15 NBA regular season continued on Sunday, December 7. While the NFL may have commanded the attention of the national media outlets, the association stepped up with seven games featuring some of the league’s biggest stars.
Here’s how it all transpired.
1. Jeff Green scored 25 points, Marcus Thornton had 21 and Rajon Rondo posted a triple-double as the Boston Celtics upset the Washington Wizards 101-93. Rondo finished with 13 points, 13 rebounds, 11 assists and three steals, while John Wall posted 17 points, 14 assists, eight rebounds, three blocks and three steals.
Rondo is the only player in the NBA with multiple triple-doubles.
2. Washington had won four consecutive games before this defeat.
3. Jrue Holiday made the most of his homecoming as the New Orleans Pelicans blew past the Los Angeles Lakers 104-87. Holiday, a Mission Hills, California native and former UCLA Bruins star, finished with 22 points, eight assists, four rebounds and a block on 4-of-5 shooting from beyond the arc for the Pelicans.
New Orleans is 7-1 when Holiday has at least eight assists and 2-9 when he doesn’t.
4. Anthony Davis posted 23 points on 11-of-15 shooting as New Orleans snapped its four-game losing streak.
5. LaMarcus Aldridge out-dueled Carmelo Anthony as the Portland Trail Blazers escaped with a 103-99 victory over the New York Knicks. Aldridge finished with 24 points, 11 rebounds and a steal, while Anthony had 23 points, 10 rebounds and three assists.
Portland, 16-4, is a perfect 9-0 against the Eastern Conference.
6. Kevin Durant scored a season-high 28 points in 29 minutes to lead the Oklahoma City Thunder to a narrow 96-94 victory over the Detroit Pistons. Russell Westbrook added 22 points, 11 rebounds and seven assists for OKC, while Andre Drummond had 16 points, nine rebounds, two steals and a block for Detroit.
The Pistons have lost a league-worst 12 consecutive games.
7. Jon Leuer stepped up with 20 points and 12 rebounds in 24 minutes to lift the Memphis Grizzlies past the Miami Heat 103-87. Dwyane Wade scored 25 points and dished out six assists, but Miami made just four free throws as a team.
Miami is two games below .500 for the first time since February 6, 2010.
8. Chandler Parsons, Dirk Nowitzki and Monta Ellis were efficiently dominant as the Dallas Mavericks defeated the Milwaukee Bucks 125-102. Parsons tallied 28 points on 11-of-14 shooting, Nowitzki had 21 points on a mark of 8-of-12 from the field, and Ellis put up 19 points on 7-of-13 shooting.
Dallas has won six in a row against Eastern Conference teams.
9. Paul Millsap put up 23 points and four steals as the Atlanta Hawks held on for a 96-84 victory over the Denver Nuggets. Atlanta led by as many as 24 points, but Denver stormed back to cut the lead to nine with 3:54 remaining.
Atlanta is on a six-game winning streak.
10. Wilson Chandler led Denver with season-high marks of 29 points and 10 rebounds. He has more double-doubles in 2014-15, three, than he had in all of 2013-14, two.
Bonus Fact: Amar’e Stoudemire finished with 16 points, 10 rebounds and two blocks, and has six games in 2014-15 with at least 10 rebounds. He had five such games in all of 2013-14.
This has resulted from the high count of Asian immigration to Australia, and of course the long existence of the Chinese community in Australia.
