The 2014-15 NBA regular season continued on Tuesday, December 16 with a number of the league’s elite in action. One of the game’s current greats reached a marvelous milestone and the two teams with the best records in the association clashed.
Here’s how it all transpired.
1. Mac Gasol scored 24 points and Zach Randolph posted 17 points and 10 rebounds as the Memphis Grizzlies defeated the Golden State Warriors 105-98. Stephen Curry had 19 points, seven assists, six rebounds and four steals, but he shot just 1-of-10 from beyond the arc.
The loss ends Golden State’s 16-game winning streak.
2. With Memphis’ victory, it became the second team to reach 20 wins. Golden State was the first.
3. Russell Westbrook went off for 32 points, seven assists, six rebounds and four steals to guide the Oklahoma City Thunder past the Sacramento Kings 104-92. Kevin Durant posted 26 points for Oklahoma City, while Rudy Gay scored 22 for Sacramento.
OKC has won seven consecutive games.
4. Durant, 26, becomes the second-youngest player to reach 15,000 points. Only LeBron James, then 25, did it at a younger age.
5. John Wall demolished the Minnesota Timberwolves as he led the Washington Wizards to a 109-95 victory. Wall posted 21 points, 17 assists, four rebounds and a steal on 9-of-17 shooting from the field and 2-of-4 from beyond the arc.
Wall leads all guards with 15 double-doubles.
6. This was Wall’s second game with at least 20 points and 15 assists in 2014-15. He’s the only player to do it multiple times.
7. Dwyane Wade went off for 28 points to lead the Miami Heat past the Brooklyn Nets 95-91. Deron Williams put up 15 points, 11 assists and two steals for the Nets, while Luol Deng put up 18 points to support D-Wade for the Heat.
Mason Plumlee scored a season-high 21 points, but the Nets ultimately fell short.
8. Anthony Davis scored 31 points on 12-of-15 shooting and Ryan Anderson had 28 on a mark of 10-of-15 to lead the New Orleans Pelicans to a 119-111 victory over the Utah Jazz. Tyreke Evans added 19 points and Jrue Holiday dished out eight assists to give the Pelicans the win.
At 12-12, this is the latest New Orleans has been at .500 or better since 2010-11.
9. Enes Kanter scored a career-high 29 points, but Utah has lost 12 of its past 13 games.
10. Five played scored in double-figures and eight had at least eight points to help the Dallas Mavericks earn a balanced 107-87 victory over the New York Knicks. Carmelo Anthony led the Knicks with 26 points and Pablo Prigioni had nine assists and five steals, but New York fell again.
New York has lost 12 of 13.
Bonus Fact: Rookie of the Year candidate Jabari Parker is expected to miss the remainder of the 2014-15 season with a torn ACL.
