LeBron James Traveling for Rehab
LeBron James has been rehabilitating his back and sore knee for the past week and is expected to miss another week to boot. The interesting thing to note is not how he is rehabbing it, but where.
James spent part of this past week doing rehab in Miami, taking advantage of the warmer weather. And, while he has been avoiding sitting on the bench during Cavs games to spare his ailing back, it is for the warmer climate that he will be traveling with the team on their next road trip. As reported by ESPN’s Brian Windhorst:
It helps that we’re going to some warmer cities, so my body could use that as well. It’s difficult for sure, not being with the guys, and me being a team guy, and a camaraderie guy, it was difficult for sure.”
The Cavaliers have a five-game west coast trip spanning a week with stops in Oakland, Los Angeles, Sacramento and Phoenix — much warmer than the frigid, below-freezing temperatures that are haunting the Midwest.
Deron Williams Out Indefinitely
He had only just returned to the team’s lineup after missing time with a sore side, but Brooklyn Nets guard Deron Williams played only four minutes in Wednesday night’s loss to the Boston Celtics. Now, he’s out indefinitely with a fractured rib.
As reported by Lang Whitaker for NBA.com, Nets medical director Dr. Riley Williams III spoke about Williams’ diagnosis.
Deron reported some soreness above this area over the weekend and as a result underwent imaging studies on Monday, which were negative. Yesterday during the game he reported a new onset of symptoms below the prior area of soreness. New imaging studies done today demonstrated the fracture. There is no timetable for his return. He will be re-assessed in one week.”
Atlanta Hawks Officially for Sale
The Atlanta Hawks announced on Thursday that the current ownership group has unanimously approved a plan to sell 100-percent of the team. The plan to sell the team will also include Philips Arena, where the Hawks play their home games. The sale of the team “will commence immediately.”
According to David Aldridge, former NBA All-Star Grant Hill and Junior Bridgeman, former NBA Players Association president (1985-88), have put together a bid to buy the Atlanta Hawks that includes former Phoenix Suns owner Jerry Colangelo and his son, former Suns and Raptors general manager, Bryan Colangelo.
Former NBA deputy commissioner Russ Granik, who is vice chair of Galatioto Sports Partners, the advisory group that Hill and Bridgeman have retained to help facilitate their effort to purchase the Atlanta franchise, spoke of Bridgeman’s interest in acquiring the team.
Junior had an interest since it was announced the team was going to be sold. More recently he’s had conversations with Grant and the two of them decided they wanted to go at this together.”
Of course, the impending sale of the team brings another round of Seattle suitors with it. Chris Hansen, who most recently attempted to purchase the Sacramento Kings and relocate them to the Northwest, is among two potential ownership groups that intends to make a run at the Hawks.
Atlanta is not looking to lose its NBA team, however. Mayor Kasim Reed has suggested that the city may offer new ownership concessions to ensure that the team remains in the southern metropolis for another 30 years.
