The 2014-15 NBA regular season continued on Tuesday, February 3 with a slate of five games. There was a down-to-the-wire finish, a pair of statement wins and a number of surprising results.
Here’s how it all transpired.
1. Stephen Curry put up 23 points, nine assists, five rebounds and three steals as the Golden State Warriors decimated the Sacramento Kings 121-96. DeMarcus Cousins led the Kings with 26 points, 11 rebounds, four assists, four blocks and three steals, while Andre Iguodala had 17 points on 6-of-8 shooting in just 24 minutes for the Warriors.
The Warriors have won eight consecutive games over the Kings.
2. Damian Lillard scored 25 points, LaMarcus Aldridge had 22 and 11 rebounds, and Wesley Matthews tallied 21 on 6-of-10 shooting as the Portland Trail Blazers survived a scare against the Utah Jazz 103-102. Gordon Hayward led the Jazz with 27 points, five rebounds, five assists, one block and a steal, and Rudy Gobert grabbed 15 rebounds off of the bench.
Portland has won five straight meetings with the Jazz.
3. D.J. Augustin had 25 points and 13 assists to help the Detroit Pistons overcome Chris Bosh and the Miami Heat 108-91. Bosh finished with 34 points for the Heat, while Andre Drummond had 14 points, 14 rebounds and two blocks.
Dating back to when he first signed with the Heat, Miami is now 17-1 when Bosh scores at least 30 points.
4. Hollis Thompson had a big 23 points on 8-of-12 shooting and Michael Carter-Williams dished out 12 assists to lead the Philadelphia 76ers past the Denver Nuggets 105-98. Danilo Gallinari scored 22 points and Ty Lawson dished out 14 assists for Denver, but it wasn’t enough.
Thompson’s 23 points set a career-high.
5. Avery Bradley and Jared Sullinger took over to help the Boston Celtics get past the New York Knicks 108-97. Bradley scored 26 points on 11-of-14 shooting, and Sullinger stepped up with 22 points, nine rebounds and six assists.
Boston had lost three in a row before winning this game.
Bonus Fact: Before Augustin, the previous two Pistons players with at least 25 points and 10 assists in consecutive games were Jerry Stackhouse and Isiah Thomas.
